The two below look like hepatica maybe.

The last two look like rue anemone (thalictrum or anemonella).

The first two are Erythronium americanum, the second two are Yellowroot (Xanthoriza simplicissima), the third looks like Buckeye (Aesculus pavia is one form) and I agree the last two are rue anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides).

The first 2 are probably Erythronium umbilicatum because of the large number of flowers present. It appears that each pair of leaves is accompanied by a flower stem, which is atypical of E. americana, a stoloniferous species that seldom produces a flower stem. You often find large colonies of them, with only a few flowers. When the seed capsule appears, check for a dimple(concave) at the apex, which will identify E. umbilicatum. E. americanum has a beaked seed capsule.

Can you tell from that picture? I don't see a dimple OR a beak, although that's not the best picture to see the apex.
As for the cluster of flowers, there were TONS, and i mean TONS of the plants, but not many had flowers (although there were more seed pods), and the ones that did only had one. I took that picture BECAUSE it was unusual in that there were a lot in one place.... and since I didn't know to look for it i didn't, but I think it was only one stalk per couple of leaves.

I searched "E. americana", and it doesn't look right either... The flowers look too yellow and they don't have the reddish outside petals.

Well, I'm stumped. These two look VERY similar. Is the seed pod the only difference? I know that only plants with two leaves will send up a flower in the groups that we find.

Both are present in NC (and Georgia). Razorback, do you know which one we usually find here in Georgia?

Tomorrow, I'm going outside first thing and look at my seed pods to see what I've got.

There are other identifiable features that distinguish the two species, one that can be be observed withhout close inspection of the flower parts. On E. unbilicatum, the peduncle holding the seed capsule will bend so that the capsule will be near or on the ground at maturity, whereas the E. americana peduncle and capsule will be held erect or somewhat declined, but not near or on the ground.
On umbilicatum, the stigma lobes are spreading, anthers are brown or purple, rarely yellow, pollen is brown, purple or yellow. On americana, stigma lobes are erect or recurved, anthers yellow, chestnut brown or lavender, pollen is yellow or brown.
Keep in mind that these are features used to classify the species and some may vary widely, for example, I recently saw a colony of umbilicatum, var. umbilicatum with light green, unpatterned leaves and all with yellow anthers and pollen.
The distribution of E. americana is generally a northern one, but ssp. harperi is found as far south as northern SC, GA, AL & MS. E. umbilicatum is native northward to MD, VA, WV & KY. In GA, americana, ssp. harperi is limited to a few NW counties, but umbilicatum, var umbilicatum is found in many areas north of a line from Thomasville to South of Augusta, absent in the Coastal and Upper Coastal Plain. (esh- it is the species found in the Atl.Metro area). In NC, most of the state from about Raleigh/Durham westward, again absent in the Coastal area. americana, ssp. harperi is found only in a narrow area in the center of the state, from about Charlotte, northward.(distribution info obtained from Flora of North America, Vol. 26, a project of Harvard U. & MOBOT)

Thanks for the extra clarification, Razorback, although it's too late to check any flower details here. However, the seed capsule is almost touching the ground now and while the seed capsules are still small, but they definitely look more dimpled than beaked. I am glad to have learned this distinction!

It is a strange phenomenon, but depending upon the location of collection, bloom times will vary. Some of mine came from the N Fulton Co. area and have finished blooming, others from extreme southern Dekalb Co. have only started within the last week or so. This has been observed in past years. also.
