rich, I have the same thing, I have a hill that was cleared by new construction and I've been trying to get it re-wooded. Of course until the pines put out enough shade, I have all sorts of things growing in there. Invasive stuff...so for the past few years I've been trudging up there(it's very steep in spots) pulling up or cutting back stuff. I'm not that concerned about weeds, I use a lot of mulch on my flower beds and don't mind pulling some weeds (and then stuffing them back in the compost). I have tons of privet, honeysuckle, muscadine (looks great in falls, I'll leave it till then), cat briar, and other assorted stuff most of which I haven't been able to identify.

Terrisofla, I have the same problem with a few of my cuttings, they shrivelled up even though I mist them twice a day. This one in particular was spotting an inflo and I let it grow for a couple of weeks but the top just below the tip is hollow and getting more so by the minute, so I decided to cut the inflo off, but its still hollow, itt does get plenty of sunshine...any help or input is greatly appreciated!!! Gladys, I suspect if you dig up the plant you will find rotten roots. The cold, wet period in March probably did it. It was fortunate you took the cutting when you did. I had a plant that was damaged by cold that did the same thing. It looked OK, but wasn't growing/waking in the spring. When I cut it back, the center of the stalk was hollow and brown. The stalk was firm, but it was obvious the center was not alive anymore. Mike

Carolyn, Thanks for your reply. I'm going to talk to the ag office, but I don't know if they can help. I had to leave on a business trip the day after I posted, so I didn't have time to make it to the Extension office. I got home yesterday and was mostly pleased to find that I haven't lost any more plants. But, I am wishing that I could find just *one* more infected plant, so that I could take it in! April
