Photo test of buttercups, wish I could figure out how to post directly into the text! Any tips, instructions, ideas, etc? I can figure out how to link them in but now how to post directly.

Here's the steps for posting photos to GardenWeb from the TinyPic website:

1. When you're on the "Tinypic" site, scroll over to the left where it says "Grab Your Code" and then copy what's in the box under "HTML for Websites". What you're doing is copying your html code for that particular photo.

2. Then go back to the GardenWeb site, and paste the copied html code text anywhere within a new "Post a Message to the Forum" message window on your GardenWeb forum of choice.

3. Add any other text you want to put in, and then click the "Preview Message" button. Be sure not to type in any text within the "" surrounding the html code or it will mess up the photo's ability to post. You should see your photo appear in the preview window.

4. Click the "Submit Message" button. Your post with your photo included will appear on the GardenWeb forum.

These instructions are pretty much the same for the Photobucket website too. You may also want to set your TinyPic or Photobucket site to private. This will make just the specific photo you posted on GardenWeb viewable to the general public.

You can also do test photo postings on the "Test Forum" on GardenWeb (see link below). There used to be an instruction page for posting photos on GardenWeb but I can't seem to find it right now.

Thanks, I'll try that. I also have picassa and twitpix but I couldn't find anyway to copy an actual picture, just the link. I'll try it with tinypic. You have been a big help.

The old Burgess Buutercup is usually a fair performer, good vine with decent yield. Very susceptible to SVB tho. Lots of vendors just sell a generic buttercup now. Unless the grower has been careful and selective, The burgess can lose a lot of it qualities. The Japanese Kabocha s are in the same group, so you might want to try one of those. They certainly don't like the competition of weeds. That may be holding them back. They are winter squash with a long growing season so expect them to much later than zucchini. Most varieties of C, maxima ( The buttercup) take about a 100 days. C. moshata ( butternut) average about 90 days.

I was on top of a cliff today and had a good look at the buttercups. I think they were the same as yours. The harsh conditions had made them prostrate but the leaves were visible and the sepals fully reflexed. Seems to be a very adaptable species. I noticed there is dandelion and ragwort in your picture so clearly there's moisture below the surface.

arcy ——Well, in terms of tree roots, I do have a couple other hosta maybe under sized in that same bed. The mouse ears in the picture is new this year. my Fire Island seems under sized. But, Sum & Substance, So Sweet, Royal Standard and Undulata are all on track. peren, I never had Iris in this bed, just those awful invasive orange day lilies. It took two years of digging and covering the ground to kill what was there so I could plant there. ken, yikes is right! Not only is the Maple there, but maybe 8-10 years ago the was another tree not that far from the Maple that died (wonder why, ha!) and I imagine there are dead roots in the ground too. I will have to look for that piece with the little root. It’s out in a bucket or bag with yard waste....... bkay, so the root rot you’ve seen is different from what you see in my pics...... beverly, the way it was initially connected reminds me of Huecheras. The plant seems to develop this long rhizome-like piece that the plant grows from. debra
