Rooting Lindera benzoin (spicebush)

Does anyone have any experience with rooting spicebush (Lindera benzoin)?

My mother was generous enough to share some from her yard. I did fine one or two small shrubs to dig up...but, only one sucker with roots. There were many suckers on the larger shrubs but no roots on them.

I'd love to root some of the suckers. From somewhere, I got the idea that rooting willows emit a rooting hormone into the water in which they are rooting and that it is possible to root other trees in the same water---or did I make that up? Not sure it was a theory I came up with in my teen years or something that I read somewhere.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for rooting spicebush?

Thank you,

David
