Supper last night was a ham sandwich, potato chips and a beer. We did go high class with the mustard, though. Grey Poupon and all that. Hey, we spent most all day on the river and didn't get off the river until well after sundown. Today it's going to be different. Amberjack is in season in the Gulf and my favourite seafood shoppe just happened to have some. This afternoon it will be grilled amberjack, oysters on the half shell, and seafood jumbo. Have mixed up a batch of Sangria. Red wine, sparking water and slices of apples, oranges, and limes, never the same way twice. Have a key lime pie made just in case we need a desert. No, I'm not cooking yet on my solar cooker. Just waiting for the additional mirrors I have ordered come in. Early experiments are promising. It's another ever so pleasant of a day. Gotta dilemma, though. Alabama and Georgia, who are ranked 8th and 3rd, respectively, play tonight just about the same time that Darius Rucker, Beausoleil, Kansas and 38 Special are playing. Life is full of little decisions....

Leaf lobing on both Post Oak and Sand Post Oak can be highly variable. I've seen populations of Post Oak in the MO Ozarks with most leaves on most of the trees shaped much more like Sand Post Oak than the typical crucifix form of more typical Post Oak. I'd use the twig hairiness and leaf size as the more reliable differentiating characteristics. But the lobing can be helpful in conjunction with those. Another differentiating characteristic is the leaf surface, which on Post Oak is mostly rough and sandpapery because of widely spaced stiff stellate hairs, while Sand Post Oak isn't. Also, Sand Post Oak's leaf undersides are often soft and velvety to the touch, while Post is often rough and never soft and velvety. Most Post Oak seedlings in my area (Eastern KS, and Western MO) have lobing which looks nothing like the adult trees. In fact many have lobing which resembles the lobing of Chinquapin Oak (Q. muehlenbergii) and White Oak (Q. alba).

Would you believe I forgot all about the sale! I did get some good weeding done and more mulching......and, I repeat, I do not need any more plants. Helen, epimediums are supposed to do well in dry, shady spots and compete with tree roots....sound like a good plant. Christie, I think the hirta is different from Golsturm which is a rudbeckia fulgida and is perennial. Hirtas aren't but are supposed to self-seed well. I have one that does. I think you will find them different. I keep getting heliopsis and rudbeckias confused in my beds,but I think it is rudbeckias that something is eating the heck out of....last year it was a tiny fuzzy black worm. I don't see the worms this year but the leaves are holey....also my one remaining echinacea is threadbare. At least you all had a great sale day. I was afraid it would be raining. Helen, you may have to invest in a large Rubbermaid tub with a lid.....a couple of rocks would hold it down. I want to see everyone's plants when they get them planted.

If any of you want to trade some of the blue varieties, I have blue beauty, lucid gem, and blue gold berries. I don't have many but I would love to trade for some of the ones I don't have (I am only looking for blue varities please.)
