Ohio Native tree and shrub seeds

I operate a small native tree nursery in Delaware, OH. I am interested in obtaining native seeds of the following species that MUST be collected from Ohio: Buttonbush and Strawberry Bush (Euonymous americana) would be very helpful.

Buttonbush Cephalanthus occidentalis

Meadow-sweet Spiraea alba

Northern arrowwood Viburnum Recognitum

Red-osier dogwood Cornus sericea

Smooth alder Alnus serrulata

Speckled alder Alnus incana

Swamp rose Rosa palustris

Spicebush Lindera benzoin

Winterberry Ilex verticillata

High bush blueberry Vaccinium corymbosum

I have 15 acres that I just bought in Licking County. About 10 acres of old meadow and 5 of wetland forest/grasses. Not sure what all is there yet - (it was beautiful in the wooded area this spring ). Soil test showed 36 to 48 inches of top soil.

May be nothing there you want but your welcome to come look if you like. My goal is to have my own arboretum - at least one of every native Ohio tree. Maybe we could trade... Gary

hey mom.. what cha ya baking... i could probable send you dozen of volunteers ... as i have 4 mature trees around .... watch for them in bloom.. and knock on doors.. whoever has the old standard.. surely has a million babes in the garden beds... i dont know why you would go thru the hard way.... maybe you could trade them for some brownies... ken

Greenthumbz, those are gorgeous pics! I've heard that there are a couple of trees that are not native to North America but are used by significant numbers of native insects. 1) Malus/Crabapples - native, hybrid, or exotic, Douglas Tallamy's book stated that the leaf chemistry is so similar that North american insects will use all species. This certainly bears true in my experience. I've got lots of crabs, a few specimens and a crazy wild thicket full of them in back,and they are bird magnets, not just for the fruits in the fall but for the nectar and insects in spring and summer. 2) Picea abies/Norway spruce - don't have any personal experience, but was told this by an ornithology student at Cornell who was doing a study on the subject

I have some Florida azalea and sourwood seedlings -- they probably can't go into the ground until next year though, they are tiny. I have a spare Prairie rose seedling (also small), and will probably have rooted cuttings of swamp rose this fall as well. I am going to try to root some winterberry, beautyberry and blue mist shrub so there will be extras. I dug a sucker of a Carolina rose -- if that doesn't work I'm going to try to grow more from seed, if this drought doesn't keep the hips from maturing.

I'm from IL but I know someone from Cinncinati who runs a small nursery/plant business from his house. He has quite a number of native & non-native woodies on his property. He's on another forum but I perhaps could ask him if I could pass along your request and list.
