TYVM, Christy! The wine corks were a new addition this past summer and unfortunately most of the plants that I had already going in them succumbed to cold (2 nights of mid-20's) in January. I'd meant to bring them in because they are easily small enough to freeze completely but forgot. So I can't answer that question directly except to say probably more than a year. It's been very eye-opening in regard to how a too-small pot can really affect growth rate. Similarly sized cuttings placed in the ground or much bigger pot grow much more quickly. I think the most important thing regarding propagating succulents is to let them callous at least overnight before trying to pot up, so the wound is sealed, reducing the risk of rotting. TYVM, Barb! I keep mini gardens under porch roof and under the shelter over my potting area because it can rain hard enough to literally wash everything out of them if left exposed. Sometimes they get wet when the wind is blowing while it's raining, but not pounded directly by it. I use my little watering can that I use to water everything, with rain water whenever mother nature cooperates.

Yes, the changes are working out so much better than I envisioned, so we are thrilled. We love how the fountain is working - remember when we were afraid it might be a mini niagra falls if the pump was too big? I especially love how I hardly ever have to mess with the pump, and when I do it is so easy to get into the tub to get at it. Hubby and I have been talking about the expansion. I am after him to get the grass transplanted to the backyard during our rainy season. That means like NOW :). Here is our current scheming. The red ink indicates the outer edge perimeter which will be bogs or marshes. The pond actual is the blue ink. Hubs wants a 'water wall' so the thought is to have the water wall running off a bog into the pond that runs the opposite side from the house. So we can sit out on the front porch, watch the fishies swimming around and enjoy the water wall. In the mean time, I get to sit around and noodle over how to make a pseudo stream in absolutely flat sand, what size pump for a water wall and how to get adequate water exchange between the two sides. Should be fun! And I am thinking of trying out sailfin mollies in the pond. Anybody have them? ~dianne

We had our local "garden crawl" this weekend too. It was 5 gardens which were all "do it yourself" featuring anything from flower gardens to purely veggie gardens (and some of both). Most people had "non-elaborate" (it's all DIY) gardens but most are probably not something that people would consider "saleable" gardens. That's because most of us don't want to sell! We moved here to move here (most of the people on the tour chose their homes based on the exterior space, and were gardeners before they moved in, only one wasn't and she is just starting her garden but has an awesome yard for gardening!!!). NOTHING like your tour at all. However gardening isn't the only attraction. We also "crawl" from each house after fun beverage after beverage. By 4pm so many were daydrunk they went home before our dinner plans. I focused on water, and keeping hydrated and a wonderful time with good friends.

That's wonderful Connie. It all looks great. It must be nice to have lawn as "insurance" that you can expand whenever you want to! What is that gold ball on the right in the last picture? It kind of looks like a Christmas Ornament. I love unique things like that in a garden. Myrle

All the gardens we saw had their own unique features and beauty. Thank you for liking my pictures. Yes we did do the catch pond and water course ourselves. Kind of crude but we like it. Carole thought my garden looked less wild since most of my sun perennial beds are gone. I kind of agree.

Myrle,

You asked about the gold ball. Well it is a bowling ball painted and covered with glass bead drops. A few years ago making them was all the rage in this area. I have more with small balls in another area.

All the frogs and turtles are fun with the water.

I also have bird cages painted different colors hanging in my sun perennial garden.
