Comments (3)I grew a moonflower from seed indoors this past summer, and it DID in fact bloom for me. It was in a 10" (? maybe) pot and seemed to do alright. It does take awhile for the flower buds to mature and open. Of course, I'm assuming it was a plant like mine-though I'm finding there are a lot of different kinds of "moonflowers", each of them very different. Mine were like very large morning glories. It did outgrow its pot, though, and once I put it outside it just exploded with new growth, and for a few weeks it had several blooms opening each night! Anyway, I hope your moonflowers have bloomed (It's been a while since you posted I noticed), and good luck with planting outside. It's very much worth it if you can!...See MoreMoonflower first bloom yesterday
Comments (7)Same here, they bloom late even when I start them in the winter. At least you have a longer growing season. We usually get a hard frost in Oct. I've wintered a potted Ipomoea Alba over in the greenhouse and did get very early blooms the following year. As a matter of fact it pretty much just bloomed thru the winter but it grows like mad and isn't a well behaved greenhouse plant. It's not bad if you keep it cut back over the winter. I had to wait a bit but still got flowers by late spring....See MoreMoonflower not blooming at all :(
Comments (2)It is not unusual for the early buds to shuck off due to extra rain or nutrient uptake. Give it a bit of time, I live in zone 6 and mine are just now forming buds, some have shucked off. I have had trouble in past years, since it seams the plants look so unhealth for so long I felt I needed to feed them - Big Mistake!. Give them no food, or water lest you want rampant growth, at the expense of flowers. I find Moonflowers take a while to take off and get those nice large leaves and finally flower....See Moreprimulaveris
