Overwintering Japanese maple in container in Virginia

Hi, I live in Richmond, Virginia, zone 7b. I have an Acer Palmatum 'Aratama' I would like to overwinter. From what I've read on the internet, it's warm enough here in Virginia in the winter for me to overwinter the Aratama on my covered porch. I do not want to bury it in the ground, which I know is often suggested. On the porch, it will be protected from winter winds. My question is whether I should wrap the container in bubble wrap--I saw that as a suggestion to protect from frost. I have it still in its original container from the nursery and will re-pot it next spring (I bought it this previous spring). Also, my biggest question is watering it--am I supposed to water it over the winter at all. I know it goes dormant, so wasn't sure how to handle watering. Thank you.
