Maple fall color(post your pics too please!)

Started a similar thread in the conifer forum because from what I have seen, conifer lovers are often Japanese maple lovers and visa-versa. You're certainly welcome to post of that thread if you like or share some images here as well.

I took this photo yesterday. I grew this from seed collected off of the cultivar "Butterfly" in 2007. My seeds came from a maple collector so there's a lot of pollination, occurring.

If I could have only one (no!), it would be San Pedro. A drawback for some people might be that, here at least, as a practical matter it needs to be cured. It will eventually lose astringency just sitting but it takes a long long time. For Fall color, fruit quality, earliness, and productivity it is in the top echelon. The color varies all over the tree. Every branch is a little different. There is no fruit in the pics because I harvest San Pedro as soon as it gets color (it's sweet and full flavored as soon as it colors up.) and ship it hard to friends and family around the country.

Really great job. Heres mine so far. Sabal minor Needle palm One out of two windmill palms. This comming winter will be their first one. 2nd windmill palm, this one has a double trunk gazeebo plants Budding thanksgiving cactus. You cant see the buds too well, but they doubled in size this past week because of all the cool weather. 3 gallon pygmy palm Huge pygmy palm. Thats going to be fun to bring inside in september! The cannas seem to love this rain. The wandering jew plant tripled in size since the beggining of april. The dark colored canna is canna wyoming and the green one is richard wallace Orange tree and dwarf cavendish banana. The orange tree came from a orange fruit at the grocery store. I tried the same things with lemons with equal success. The orange is 3 years old and is just branching out. The banana is new and replaced my old super dwarf cavendish which would probably have fruit on it by now if it wasnt attacked by aphids last fall. More cannas and some annuals. The variegrated plant in the back of the geraniums is an iris. More tropicals. The cannas are canna petoria, and red king humbert. Also in the picture are some mother in law tounges and a potted pindo palm This philodendron is making a great comeback after being burnt by the heat we had in april. Its enjoying our recent cold weather (at least something is) and pushed out two leaves this past week. 3 year old stromanthe. Usually has more color than this, and the new leaves are showing more color than the old ones. Elephant ear and a sago palm. The sago just pushed a new flush of leaves. My experiment. This pindo palm will be going through its first winter and hopefull will make it. I got it off ebay for a great price and got another one (thats potted) incase this one doesnt make it. Huge yuccas that wll have to be treated as an annual First year with plumerias. The smallest one is called plumeria divine and will never get big, and I have no idea what the big one is called, but it looks old enough for it to flower soon (it never flowered before judging by the trunk) 100s of air plants on a cherry tree. Got those off ebay too. They arent mounted on the tree so they wont be hard to take off this fall so they dont die. Sorry for the darkness, I took the pics when it was raining. Hopefully the sun will come out soon because Some of these plants havent really taken off yet.

I am looking into installing wood floor with my maple cabinets and found samples of brazilian oak which looks nice. But the sotre had two different colors - one golden color and the other a more cherry color for brazilian oak. I prefer the golden color, but would like to see how all these woods look in the someone's house. How has it held up to use ? Which manufacturer did you buy it from ? Thanks Ani

Hi Dax,been reading your advice for ages.Interestingly shaped seedling there,makes me think of Sycamore vaguely.Oh it's 'Aureum' which I've found can be almost as colourful in summer with a little sun.....and that new one 'Bi Hoo',unavailable in UK until July,and even now only 2web results...will really add contrast.

Mac, that's some very good color on that 'Aconitifolium'. Mine didn't do so well this Fall. See below.

Very cool. I haven't been by this forum in a while. I've got a couple of snaps. First up, my little dawn redwood. Then my Ukigumo (floating clouds) with a Sherwood Flame down low a little past its prime flamage. Enjoy!

A couple of artsy pictures of the Abigail Rose in my front yard. I've only had it a year and a half. Last fall it turned a dark purplish red color. This year it had some really wacky new growth (it has a Dr. Seuss vibe.) The old growth turned back to the salmony-pink color it gets in the spring but the new growth turned purple-red. Its really crazy looking right now.

We have a very warm, dry fall here and i thought the maples wouldn't be much too look at, but this week they have all turned color...just in time for Thanksgiving!!

Cool pic with the sun glaring in...in fact alot of nice pics by everyone!

Wish I had a more moderate climate so I could enjoy a longer season.

Trees have been bare here for weeks now...almost a month!

Some really great maples and pictures here. I have a young A. palmatum 'Glowing Embers' that has lived up to its name this fall. Deep red throughout, which is a wonderful combo with a very large yellow dominated red maple and Leyland cypress nearby.

Morning sun hitting it... Acer truncatum 'Fire Dragon'

Afternoon sun hitting them from behind... front tree is 'Fire Dragon' and the yellow one in the back is a regular Acer truncatum. Almost as bright yellow as Ginkgo.

Dang. Found this thread while researching maples in a retooling of a rose garden. The beauty is breathtaking, BUT, none of you guys/gals LABELED your trees! I can't say, 'Oooh, that's the one I want to investigate further!' Wish there was a way to go back and revise with titles.

Sometimes I wonder if Garden Web forum members (of which I'm one) realize how often their remarkably useful threads come up for those of us planning and researching new and changing gardens ;~)

The majority of my maples were grown from seed, hence no varietal names. :-(

Beautiful scene Mike.You know I'm constantly amazed at the size of some people's gardens on these forums.In UK the average garden would probably only have room for one big tree,and that may upset the neighbours ha ha.Can you spot a bit of jealousy here? :)

We have just been recently settled in relation to the time scale in the UK. Washington State became a state in 1889.
In our new subdivisions the lots are getting smaller and smaller. I'm very lucky to have 10 acres.
I've been to the UK and loved it.
