@ontnative I'm with you on the fact that rarely do tulips make good displays, if any, following their first year. The Darwin tulips I one year continued to bloom as well the second year. I've still got a patch of them that bloomed last spring(year 4). Looks like it might've been their last. Alliums tended to decline in bloom(year 3) so that's why I dug these ones up...to find them way deeper than originally planted. Probably the reason they gave only foliage & weak blooms if any. Pot them up! If you have an area such as a garage that stays mostly above freezing you can leave the pots out there and let them root without freezing. Also check out some of the other posts related to late plantings or "found" bulbs.

I had a problem with forcing my plants into dormancy this year, it was my first time to have them do so ever so it was a bit tricky. Of course everyone says to stop watering them at some point and leave the leaves to dry out... but that didn't work out for me. I did so in the beginig of August and on the 1st of September the leaves were still beautiful and green, i waited a bit more and still nothing happened. I have decided to do some research and many people suggested that i should cut half od the lenght of the leaves and they should then automaticaly dry out within 3 - 4 days and the bulb should begin dormancy. So it was, I actually think in my home environment the drying out period should be shorter and take up to 3 - 4 weeks maks and then forcing the dormancy by cutting the leaves - as I will know to do this next year. Right now I am trying to restart the bulbs and it is working pretty well. Though I am not happy as many of the gigantic bulbs I had at the begining of the year are now just the size of a golf ball.

I would love to have the opportunity to take pictures of Aphrodite again. I love that sparkle in the closeup. Glad you liked the photos too. The leaves are long and green, but are bent down right at the top of the bulb. There are about six leaves. I suppose the rotting began in the spring (it was fine up until I took it outdoors), and it just didn't have the strength to produce more leaves. I am wondering whether I should just let the leaves yellow, cut them and allow it to rest. I am hoping to get another amaryllis from a nearby garden center when they get them in. They are more expensive but the bulb is a good size and they had had some nice ones I thought. I was thinking of purchasing Charisma last year, but couldn't decide. Then it was gone.
