Arthur, i cant tell from the pic but is there a reflector on your bulbs? the light is wasted ir not directed towards the plants. when it comes to flouros it seems the fancy grow bulbs arent as good as a mix of cool white and warm white, plus they are more $. also if you could get them out new are T-5 out now that are much brighter and much less heat. i hope you have them on a timer. plants do need to rest a bit. not sure what your weather is like but maybe have the timer set from 5am-10am and then again from 7pm -10pm. better on electricity as well. i fully agree with your plan since your weather is a crutch to growing plants. but your choice of light could have been better. but maybe it is fine... the pic sure looke bright.? the problem with the florescents is they dont penetrate the leaves/canopy nor do they go that far. the farther light has to travel the less intense it is when it gets there. you might have been better to find a 600 w hps and set a timer so it is on from @5-6am till sun up then also from sundown to @ 10pm. the hps will go throught some leaves and give the lower ones some light as well. also with a 5 ft plant the bottom wont get much light form the flouros as it would from a hps. but light is light and i think you will be great. and probably the best home grown peppers in all of Scottland!!! peace Michael

The gallon food tins to the right have spinach seeds. There are 23 spinach cans total. ******************************************************** Meyer lemon pollinated. ************************************************** The last picture is my sweetlee in a 30 gallon container. Oh yeah, that would be nice gjcore! Going to put in a small exhaust fan this weekend to ventilate it, so I don't have to keep it open during the day. Good to be testing it out right now, because a couple of times when I forgot to leave it open, the temp inside without ventilation got into the 100s - despite that, somehow, a few of my California Poppy seeds have survived and are sprouting!! But I do mainly plan to use it for plants during the spring and maybe some in the fall/early winter. When I'm not using it as a greenhouse, it's nice to have the top covered to keep it clean from flying leaves, etc. I also spray painted something and left it in there for awhile to finish drying during the heat of the day - so double duty! lol

I've measured a 3 or 4 degree difference at night versus the outside with this type of cover. These coverings do not help a huge amount at night. But during the middle of the day when it is sunny, temperatures can really heat up in there (even when it's cold outside) so that can help promote growth in cool climates and extend the growing season. You'll probably want to take the cover off in about April, otherwise the plants can bake. (Even if most of the days are still cold, one or two unusually warm sunny days is all it takes) One suggestion that might help a little bit is to surround the container with 2 or 3 clear water containers. That could help provide some additional insulation around the roots and prevent temperatures from going below freezing.
