Catch while sports fishing
Comments (5)Thanks. I thought the parent plant might be a 'Patriot' (they were unlabeled) at first but now I am thinking maybe 'Carnival' as the leaves have a bit of drawstring and burning on the edges. Still nicely streaked though and I will keep an eye on it. My Hostas in the ground are still just emerging here in NJ. I found a 'Blue Angel' streaked sport last year and planted 'Blizzard' (purchased) last year so I am keeping fingers crossed they come up ok. I have a couple of other streakers that are well established and I worry less about....See MoreGoing Sport Fishing!
Comments (37)Great idea for a post Jo! So very cool to see how much a sport can differ from the original, and everyone's unique finds. I never had anything sport on it's own until I moved and some of them started to do weird things at the new house. I was beginning to think there is something in the water here, lolz. Most of mine haven't unfurled yet but I have another new one doing it's own thing. I do not even know what this one is or was. A year ago, I spotted it in a friend's solid green clump and I asked her if she wanted me to save the narrow yellow edged (I assumed original) hosta for her, as there was only a few eyes of it. She said no... she wanted it out, it was always supposed to be green so if I got it out I should just take it or pitch it. I asked her if she knew how old it was or the name and her eyes just kinda glazed over uninterested in anything except me getting that hosta out. Cool beans, right? Well now it has an eye that came up, that I guess will maybe become a sport of a sport? And some of the thin narrow margins are becoming more prominent... but not sure if that is just typical as it matures. If anything, the sports and wannabe sports I have found are forcing me to have patience. They do their own thing, in their own time, and I just get to wait and see, But I enjoy them, regardless. I apologize for the awful picture... I am not so good with the phone pictures. I did get a decent camera so I can start trying to improve my skills once I start experimenting with it. Hopefully, I will be better by the time it blooms. Then, maybe I will post it for a possible ID, with a picture of the original plant to compare....See MoreGROWING EARTH ANGEL IN CONTAINERS
Comments (19)My Baby Girl just arrived yaaayyy!! She appears to have a couple of new buds growing in and that's just awesome! Northland recommends I give her a couple of hours of direct sunlight a few days before planting her, for hardening. Although I'll be placing her in a container, I'm going to follow through with their recommendations. I have read, bone meal and epsom salt are good nutrients for roses, but I wonder if EA is too young for this treatment. What would you seasoned gardeners recommend? Should I just stick with fish fertilizer? I've had a hard time finding fish fertilizer at my big box stores and even the local garden center here in High Point, NC; would earthworm castings due? I have some Fox Farm organic Liquid Plant Food "Big Bloom" which contains earthworm castings and bat guano. If that isn't sufficient I can certainly travel a little further to get just what she needs. Thank you so much for your time and advice ladies!...See MoreIs this Earth Angel sporting?
