Dancing Stars

Dancing Stars is listed as a thicker substance, wider margin and better growing sport of Dancing in the Rain. I've not grown Dancing in the Rain, but so far Dancing Stars is very intriguing. First set of leaves are highly twisted and difficult to photograph when first emerge as the are also almost folded at the tips and very upright. Though first pic in the Hosta Library shows a more mature plant with much less contortions.

Substance is very good and as margins darken they contrast nicely with the cream/white centers. I had it growing in quite a bit of sun, and recently moved it to a new addition to that garden that will limit it to morning sun.

Myhostas.be lists height to 26", so still a lot of growing to do on my third year plant (planted 2011). No leaps so far but definitely advancing.

We don't have this one yet but your 2013 picture may have just convinced me. I like the twisty look and the colours are great.

I have a h.'Dancing in the Rain' which is smaller than it was in 2010, is a small plant at 8 inches tall, never the promised 32 inches. All other hostas growing around it are doing well. I hope this sport is doing so much better! Bernd

Paul, I agree with Irawon and yourself that Nancy is a super spring yellow addition to the garden. Even though it changes to lighter green later on, I still appreciate its appearance. I love the waves and the shine. The leaves have great substance and for those with smaller gardens (like myself) the compact size is a positive. This is a great solid (colour) hosta, that I warmly recommend to other hosta growers. I bought mine last season as a small plant after seeing it in a friendÃ¢ÂÂs garden. IÃ¢ÂÂd seen pictures on line, but it didnÃ¢ÂÂt grab my attention in the same way as it did that day. HereÃ¢ÂÂs a couple of pics that I took moments ago - still a ways to go before it grows to the size of yours, but now it has four eyes. IÃ¢ÂÂve heard it can take a little time to settle, but when it does, it really takes off. I guess that you would have no complaints on that score, judging by the numbers you posted! Thanks everyone. Moc, I've learned how to use my Navi that is built into my vehicle to avoid expressways! We both have seen Niagara Falls before and it was so crowded. My DH was not being helpful and kept telling me to "turn here" onto the bridge to Canada. We didn't have papers to enter back into the USA, so I was getting stressed out, the hosta farms were much more relaxing. Phil, does your Summer Fragrance bloom? They are supposed to be super fragrant. I was up in Blairsville, Georgia for 5 days helping my son pack his house up for their move to Vermont. You sure do live in a beautiful part of the country Phil. I really wanted to stop by and see your gardens, but didn't have a minute free. I still have another child in the south and look forward to visiting your gardens next season. But oh my, the giant bees, lizards, and other creatures were way too much for me! Gesila

Vanessa, I did not suspect that you were anything but a satisfied customer of Naylor Creek. I was glad to get your advice and a reference. I tried to call this afternoon but no one was at home. Will try again tomorrow. I have a fairly small yard and a particular plan that I'm trying to get put together. I've used quite a few hostas but need two more. There is nothing wrong with being a hosta collector with one example of many different hostas, it is just not the way I'm going. So I'm looking for some larger plants to get things showing up a little sooner. I have added Abiqua Drinking Gourd, Praying Hands, Striptease, Blue Mouse Ears, Devil's Advocate, Blueberry Waffles, Blue Legend, Francee, and Night Before Christmas. Generally these have been multiple larger sized plants that are well on their way. A couple of my friends have some larger, well established plants that have been the inspiration. Dancing in the Rain is a real dog! It never seems to get any better,and it melts out in the center every year. I just moved mine to an area with more shade. Phil

Paul, your lovely Dancing Stars reminds me of Whirlwind's structure which I like very much. D.S. colours are very crisp and eye catching. I really like it a lot.

BTW...My daughter has DITR and has had it for 3yrs now. It wasn't growing where she had it (too much shade IMO) so I suggested moving it this spring where it would get a few hours of morning sun and give it a little more vigour. I was happy to hear its doing much better now in its new location but I haven't seen it lately. I must check its growth for curiosity's sake and take a pic.

Beautiful! I love the white centered ones but yet I don't have many of them. This one is a real standout!

BTW, what happened to Paul in MN? I miss his pictures, he has such a great eye for color.
