crimsontide: another member on this list: Greenman28 posted once that he had a pepper in a container in his garage over winter and it got below freezing several times. The plant came back the following spring even though it looked completely dead. He also stated a couple times that the tops may die off but as long as the roots dont freeze up, they will likely regrow the following spring once conditions improve enough. He is quite knowledgable on growing peppers so I would give your plants some time to come back before yanking them. They will likely give you a big head start over starting from seeds. Bruce

I've got volunteer periwinkles from about three years ago that grew before I turned the spot into a vegetable garden. Every year I see a couple new seedlings pop up. I also have a volunteer dill from last year's seed. It came up in the middle of the beet patch and I'm just letting it grow. My Swamp Milkweed that I planted last year dropped some seeds (I was careful to harvest pods before they burst open, but I still missed a few). I've got lots of milkweed volunteers coming up all over the place. So far, I haven't got a tomato volunteer yet. And on the subject of Santa grape tomatoes - if they still have them at our grocery store, I may have to try saving some seeds and growing them out sometime. Sounds interesting.

I would plant them if I were you, but they likely won't flower this season. You don't say where you live, but I will assume you have daffodils and tulips that are known to grow in your area. If you don't know what cultivars you have, I would still plant them keeping in mind that there is a 50/50 chance they won't come back. But if they do, they will return year after year so it is worth to spend the sweat equity even when odds are 50%. Good luck to you. bulbs are a one time job and many year rewarding experience.

That is an offset or 'pup' like all bromeliads produce. If you can easily separate from mom and remove to another pot, you will have a second pineapple plant coming on!!
