Small roadside stand pics?

For the last few years, we have just used a table at the end of our drive for our veggies. This year, I would love to build a small roadside stand that looks more professional than what we have used in the past. Does anyone have pics they would be willing to post?

Hi, I am having trouble trying to post a picture of my stand but if you go to the address below, there are building plans for a couple different stands. The one I built is similar to #5983. If I can figure out how to include a photo I will post again.

Hahaha, well I am hooked too, for sure! It all started when seed started going on sale at the end of the season; lots of online deals and my local seed shop had their '09 seeds for a quarter a piece; I couldn't resist! The thing that appeals to me is that I can grow fun and different things that I can't find at my local garden center and I can grow at a quantity that is much more cost effective, especially for things like perennials. Sometimes they want $15 or $20 for a gallon size perennial! Plus, I hate winter and it's so depressing out, the sweet little seedlings make me so happy. I was so happy it was finally time to start some of the slower growing flowers. I bet the garden show was fun! I'll have to see if/when there will be one in my area. Oh and the other thing about lights and possibly needing more than one is that I have found it helpful to have one shelf for germinating or just-sprouted flats where the lights are right down close, and another shelf for the seedlings that are getting taller where the light is higher.

Zink, Thanks for the info about heat shortening the life of the electronic ballasts. Actually, I worried about that when I first sealed some fixtures, because some of the holes seemed to have no obvious function except possible ventilation. But the fixtures didn't feel much warmer after being sealed and they seemed to function OK. However, I will re-think my waterproofing scheme. At least the duct tape is relatively easy to remove. And Goo-Gone removes the residual adhesive. I might even cut some ventilation holes in the bottom of the fixture bodies, allowing the rest of the fixture to act as an "umbrella" for the lights and their wiring and electronics. My fixtures are all three-wire and so are my timer connections. I have been having some failures of the Park SL15 ballasts in my sealed fixtures. I recently purchased some replacement SL15T's. I have been getting better life out of my Philips T8 bulbs than my SL15's, and I have even had a couple of overdriven SL15's go out, even though they should have a lighter load driving just one bulb instead of two. All that said, the majority of my SL15's are still going after several years of "sealed in" service. As you know, the ballasts are mounted in direct contact with the sheet metal body of the fixture, which acts somewhat like a heat sink. But my SL15's have not been lasting nearly as well as yours, so I think I need to make some changes. Incidentally, Home Depot seems to have discontinued their second model of the $8 2-bulb T8 Commercial Electric Shoplights (I liked them better because they were narrower) and they have replaced them with T12 fixtures from Lithonia. I complained to a Home Depot employee about that, because I have no intention of switching to T12 bulbs, but I suspect that we need to "get the ear" of someone higher up in the Home Depot organization. Meanwhile, I will maintain my existing T8 fixtures and use some of my new SL15T's to overdrive some more of them. My indoor zinnias seem to appreciate the extra light from the overdriven fixtures. ZM

I already do a farmer's market, 3 days/week. I started in 2000 with 1/4 acre. My husband and I have gardened all of our life and raised 3 boys, so we have always gardened on the large size. I also live on a heavily traveled road, but decided to do the farmers market thing instead of road side. We still wanted the privacy at home. We don't have a tractor, just a walk behind tiller. We rent a tractor in spring and sometimes in the fall to do the main tilling. The tractor has a 4' tiller behind it, we can double tiller 2-3 acres in less than 8 hours. The tractor also has a bucket on the front, so that is when we get some of those jobs done that need a bucket. We rent the tractor from a commercial equipment rental place. Some of them don't have the tiller attachments, you will need to ask around. We have 28 acres, 18 wooded and 4 acres not tillable due to housing. I would advise to grow what you would eat first, that way IF it doesn't sell, you can eat it yourself. Also, check out different seed companies. I now buy from commercial seed companies and save the seeds I don't use in the "blue" canning jars, sealed tightly. By the way, don't bother saving sweet corn or onion seeds. The germination rate drops severely.

I first removed the easel then added two small eye hooks, suitable for the size frame. I used one of those brown felt things you attach to the bottom of chair legs(cut in half)and placed on each corner of the frame to keep it from sticking out from the wall. If there's too much distanace, use 2, one on top of another. ;o)

Thank you for the webpage and link. I like the look of that one, however we need one even smaller. Like something that can be moved at the end of the season without to much trouble. I don't sell a ton either, so simple, but attractive is my goal :)This year, I will be selling tomatoes, peppers, beans, squash, and perennials mostly so I'm thinking 8ft-4ft would suffice. One of these days, I shall have my farm, and will have room for a REAL stand then lol.

I found this photo online a while ago (unfortunately, have lost the source...). It's a SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) merchant stand. It looks to be fairly easy to make/set up -- some 2x4s, some poles, and canvas. I imagine you could use plywood instead of canvas for something a little sturdier, although this is made to be transported and set up/tear down-able for a weekend event, so it might be good for your needs.

Or a converted trailer, designed like those that you see at county fairs that sell food, with a wooden awning that folds down to close it up when not in business.

Actually, many chicken coops look like roadside stands. Maybe you could find something there that was adaptable.

Yes it is on the honor system.

Thanks! It's designed to be pretty flexible. The back and sides can fold up or down depending on how windy it might be. The inside converts for produce (angles up in back) and the entire structure can be lifted off the wheels/frame with my tractor forks should maintenance be required.

I wish I still had the plans to share, but I drew them up on paper and they are lost now..

Hi! I am looking for ways to make my old manure spreader into a rolling roadside stand. My son is starting a vegetable garden business for the summer so trying to save money. Any advice would make a tired mother very happy! Thanks!

I had a great comment from a member about putting food near a manure spreader....not an appetizing combination, but I am still going to keep looking into this. I don't have any other options that already have wheels! Thanks to all!

Well we did make a roadside stand out of our old manure spreader. I really like it now! Not finished putting the finishing touches and will get some bales of straw. We will have bushel baskets with corn and I have some old crates for display. We are going to hang some flower baskets on the shifter handles. This is my son's summer company business.

We tried tents/tables last year, not a good idea the wind really took it's toll. This year we have purchased a small wooden barn bldg that is on skids and portable. Our zoning laws do not permit anything permanent. Hopefully this will pan out for us.

What I am really looking for is display plans. Not bushel baskets, boxes but shelves, bins, etc. for indoor and outdoors.
