thanks kmcg, I appreciate the validation It's hard when you don't know something. I do like the fabric. I know I could probably find something better that I like if I look, but I know I could look forever and continually find things I liked better and never end up buying anything. I know me. I'm second-guessing purchasing the house. I want things to come easy to me, I want to know and understand things easily and I want things to go the way I think they should. Throw in something I don't know about and I'll try to find a way to understand them and learn, but that's just not feasible for everything and that's why I look to others to get guidance and knowledge, opinions and ideas. Also, when things aren't as easy as I thought I'd be, I do start to second guess myself. DH is a pure doll. He'll do anything to make me happy. He really surprised me when we went to look for a sectional. He picked out a wonderful fabric for the couch AND the 2 fabrics for the 6 pillows AND a rug too. They all work together nicely. I found the main fabric for the couch in the living room and we looked through all the fabrics there and the diamond pattern is the exact same coloring as the couch fabric, but nothing else we find for the accent chairs so we went with the chair we liked and looked through their fabrics. The picture of the yellow fabric is actually on a chair in the show room and we put both the couch fabrics on there to see how they matched. Could we find a better match, possibly, but again, we could have an empty living room for a long time if I keep going and going. If I start second guessing something we've decided on he asks me "I thought we decided this was it, why are you still looking and driving yourself crazy?" And it's true, it's what I do, and he knows me oh so well. Before I order the couch I'll definitely go back and take both swatches and lay them on the couch in the showroom and give it the final thought before I order. k9arlene, the pattern in chairs is really not big and I feel it's more of a solid look than a pattern, but I really don't care for a solid - maybe a tone on tone, but not solid. DH just likes a love seat, more seating for people. We won't be laying down on any of this furniture, that' what the den is going to be for :) I will try to check the thread for any additional posts and update when we make a decision. Thanks!!!

valinsv, kswl, tinan, joseph002, graywings, snookums2, and my neighbor (who introduced me to the GW forums ) jodi_in_so_calif...thank you for all of your generous responses : ) azpedsrn - any chance you live near Orange County California? If you could drive your chair & fabric over to my house, I would be happy to help you and you could use my electric staple gun and see if you like it. My staple gun was purchased online and the manufacturer is Maestri. It's electric and does not use an air compressor. I am sure an air compressor type would work better, but my Maestri is fine for my projects. I was unable to find any electric type staple guns at any local upholstery supply stores. They only sell the air type. I tried an electric Stanley type (from Sears) and that didn't shoot the staples well enough into the wood for me. I returned the Stanley and went online. My Maestri shoots fine wire staples which are different than staples I see for sale at hardware and big box stores. Do you have other pieces of furniture to reupholster besides the chair? If so, consider investing the money in a Maestri or any other brand of upholstery stapler that will shoot fine wire staples. Or, maybe someone in your neighborhood has an air compressor you can borrow and then you could buy an air gun. I wish I could help you. You have already done much of the work (removing the old fabric). Your fabric price is fantastic! If you could figure out how to post pictures, I (and other helpful GW members) could assist you better. Are you able to load pictures onto Photobucket? If so, I could walk you through my process I use to get pictures from there(PB) to here (GW).

Sofa on long window wall will look and feel the best and make the room inviting when you walk into it from the front entry. TV on the short wall opposite the sofa; pay to have the wiring redone and move on......you cannot make the space bigger but you can make work well....PS what and where do the stairs go? Do you have an upstairs? What are the dimensions of the living/dining room and kitchen.

When you retell the story of how they came to be yours, it seems that you had more of an option to reject them than you originally related. I suggest that you exercise that option. I had one such sofa for many years that was bequeathed to me via my parents who got it from some antique dealer. It was a real old one with horsehair in the cushions. I even paid to have it reupholstered. I always hated it and finally got rid of it. I tell my kids to just tell me when they don't want something. Actually, I am extremely mindful of passing anything down to them. They have their own stuff. If they want it, they can have it when I am gone. I'll bet that even Queen Ann, herself, would not like these overly ornate and supremely uncomfortable seats. I'll bet that even she would get rid of it and have what she wanted. LOL!! Have the inlaws gone on to a more modern style while leaving their old one for you? That might make some sense if you are just starting off in life, but you seem to indicate that you are not still standing on the starting line. You are not going to get where you want to go via their aesthetics. And, as others have advised, don't build it in.
