Too bad you have to move it... GE can be slow to get established, and can kind-of "reset" when moved, taking a while to settle in and start growing again. As to when they sport - can happen anytime. A lot of tcs will do this in the first year - if you grow from tc baby size, it is not unusual to lose some to reversion as it is very hard to cull the tiny tiny plantlets accurately. As far as surgery goes, I handle a rogue leaf differently from a whole eye. If it is just one off-color leaf, I usually just cut it off and toss it. If it is a whole eye, I'll usually try to cut a section of the crown out. I can often do this by removing part of the crown without digging up the plant. If I do that, I stick the piece out in my area full of random seedlings and sports. A blue sport from GE will usually resemble the GEs parent and be a big blue sieboldiana... nice plant. Sometimes the division will grow to have some sported eyes and some eyes of the original plant - so in a year or two, I might cut that up and have another GE in this case...

its a bluish plant.. and its baby bunting .... as you note there is a green plant name for chickadee.. but i cant think of it right now.. go to the library... to chickadee.. then to hugo's database.. and look for the green sport ... as soon as i hit send it will come to mind.. lol .. i dont think you want a 50 page lecture on sporting and reverting .... my simple way of thinking about it .... sporting forward to something new... reverting back to what is old .... if that makes sense .... beyond that general idea.. its all very scientific.. and frankly will make you eye glaze over.. and then you will fall asleep for two hours.. and when you awake ... the scientist will still be explaining it .... but you will have had a good nap .. and remember just as much as if you stayed awake .... lol its basically a graduate level study of plant genetics.. blah.. blah.. blah .... but if someone wants to try ... give it a go .. i need the sleep .. lol ... i am just having fun.. i have a lot of respect for the folks who know this stuff ... and are willing to take the time to share the info ... ken

This is called a sport, not a reversion, since Fantasy Island comes from Island Charm, so if it was reverting it would be going back to Island Charm. The solid green sport of Island Charm is called Green Lama. The solid green Fantasy Island should be virtually identical since they have the same colored margins, FI is simply wider. There don't seem to be any tetraploid characteristics of Fantasy Island, so if it was in my garden and I kept it I'd label it Green Lama.

Not hard to get green or gold, since I don't know what value you place on this clump I'll look at as if it were mine. Dig the whole damned thing and start to divide carefully looking to find the eye that has the variegation. Try to separate that eye and pot so you can watch it and remove any solid colors. The one variegated leaf looks like it has lighter color on each side of the center stem so it should come back if you can separate it. If there is only one leaf on that eye then we can talk about "Zumberizing" it to get that leaf coloration only. Now back to the remainder, you have a group of greenÂs and goldÂs decide what you want and compost the rest. IÂve done this and it is just fun to find out what happens. The worse is youÂll lose this leaf but you will still have all the green and gold you can use.
