...dangit, there's another tunnel!!!!

LOL.

Ok, so remember me saying something like "I see the light at the end of the tunnel"?? Well, I got to it! YAY. If you look behind the playset on the right, you'll see a newly watered garden. Well, that's my ICU. I've put the plants who need some extra care in there.... sports, TC's, minis, stepped on, underperformers, etc.

So now, I literally have EVERYTHING I want planted done! DONE! I need mulch, but that's not planting! Woo hoo.

Now, here's the problem.

My favorite garden center goes 50% off tomorrow at 8am! And I've ALREADY got some plants spied! In fact, I'm going to get at least 1 or 2 more hosta and a BUNCH of sun-lovers. See the right side of the pic where there's some lines drawn in front of the existing garden? That's it!

Y'all, there IS a light. I've seen it. I've reached it. But dangit, there's another friggin tunnel!

Thanks JD....But it's been a team effort from the very beginning. I'm pretty disappointed about the beds that were excluded, but I'm not the project chair and I wasn't present when the decision was made. This has been a huge learning experience for me, for sure and I've enjoyed it immensely. Thanks Angie. I think the thing that has left the biggest impression on me during this process (other than the incredible generosity that's been shown) is just the amazing amount of work that can be done in relatively short time periods when there are a lot of hands pitching in! It's been mostly just us women folk, and it seemed a little overwhelming at first....But it has really driven home the meaning behind "Many hands make light work." Kristi

We have the WaveTouch Elux oven and love it. We bought it at the Sears outlet so we got it for half list price. You might consider checking their website. Note that items like these come and go very quickly. We spent a couple of months checking regularly before one came up. However we had intended to get the IQ if we couldn't fit the WaveTouch into our budget. I don't know what the differences are, other than the control panel. Note that the two ovens have very different vertical dimensions, at least in the 27" wide versions. We had to make adjustments to cabinetry to fit the WaveTouch. Good luck, Cheryl

The days either start off with rain or freezing temperatures. I'll take the frost since that means we will have a blue sky morning! This week we planted 3 varieties of potatoes, 3 varieties of peas, beets, spinach, and onion sets! The ground was wet but hadn't compacted after the tractor guy tilled it, 2 weeks ago. Following one somewhat sunny but hazy day, tonight, it begins to rain, again ... sprinkles, sprinkles on and on but, I have now sprinkled some seed out there. Then, we were back yesterday to put out 1/3rd of the dahlia roots! Another 1/3 (maybe a little more :o) will go in this afternoon! The Weather Service says we are headed towards a 65°f high! That will be the warmest for 2017. Tomorrow, it will be only a 20% chance of rain so we might make it out there with that final 1/3rd. On Monday, we are back to a 60 to 70% so I imagine that we will take that day off. Maybe I can clean up more of my frontyard picket fence and be ready for a "dry morning" when I can throw some paint on it. When that might be ... the WS doesn't give me a clue ..! Steve tunnel is filling up toward the time it will look like that picture. greenhouse is jammed!

I live in a 2 story with walkout basement, so my house is 3 stories high in the back. I went to one of the upstairs bedrooms, took out the screen and snapped 3 pics... and made a panoramic pic.

What a lovely yard! Just makes me want to come for a visit! Any idea how many hosta you have planted? Are they all different? Do you have them marked? How will you remember all their names! This is really a beautiful site and I think you have a marvelous layout. Even with "all that grass"! :^)

to teh right of the playscape.. the blue spruce ... i understand the idea for an undulating edge to teh interface between lawn and garden ... but yours are a bit to wavy ....the left one.. bring it out another 2 feet.. and presto.. room for 3 more hosta... but then you have to sort them a bit or the smalls near the edge.. will be behind a bigger new one... same on the other side... but maybe one foot ...

good work .. keep on going .... where are the property lines???

I think your yard is lovely and I am a big fan of wavy beds. I can't stand a straight line!!!

Believe me! If I didn't have an engergetic almost-2-year-old who needs play space, I would definitely have less grass! This was as far out as I could negotiate with hubby... and besides, grass won't grow in a lot of that area anyway cuz of too much shade! Enter: HOSTA GLADE! LOL

Ken.... I'm not a big fan of the location of that spruce myself. In fact, there WAS another one that was in a worse location that became a friend's Christmas tree last year! It's since been sodded over!

That spruce USED to be included in the bed (till about 3 weeks ago. I have since moved the bed line back. There were a couple problems. I have the storm sewer grate about 5 feet behind that spruce and got CONSTANT runoff and erosion between the two...so much so that a couple hosta that WERE planted there were indeed killed by exposure of the roots. So, the 6-7 hosta that were in that little section have been relocated and I'll be turning that little section into a "dry stream bed" look. I need to buy the rock and get my teenage friend to help me move it!

The back property line basically is right between my bed and the neighbor's ugly blue storage shed. The left property line can be seen if you look just behind the last silver maple, you'll see some black edging. My next door neighbors and I colaborated to make that bed transition look nice. On the right, there is 1 strip of grass between my bed and the neighbor's play set. That strip is ours.

Becky: At last count, there were something like 200 or so. I have a "map" where I number each hosta and a spreadsheet with the number, name, year planted, source & this year I started recording eyes. There are some duplicates, but I'm trying to NOT buy anymore dups (except today, I'm buying more On Stage). Some are labeled... last year's stuff particularly.

i like the undulations also ..

i was suggestions to straighten them a bit.. TO FIT IN MORE HOSTA ....

MORE THAN ONE OF ANYTHING.. CONFUSES ME

Ken: Gotcha! I will have to keep that in mind! Hubby/kiddo would never miss those extra 3 feet in the center section (between the maple and the spruce), right?

Dave: No problem with another tunnel. I just wanted to camp out just outside the one I came thru.... for a week or so! But the 15 plants I bought today will keep me from that!

Beautiful garden, very nicly layed out, you have done a great job,i Love the curvey lines,and i love the view from up high,i want my hubby to get on the roof to take a shot of our yard,tee-hee(hubby-not-me)

I agree. Beautiful. And when those hostas get big--Look out!

I am jealous that I have to do postage stamp hosta gardening and you have the length of a football field. But just so there are more hostas in the world with good homes, that's all that matters.

It also looks like a lovely play space for your daughter.

Actually those aren't even blue spruce... they're more spindly that blue's. Norway's maybe?

Starting ont he right with the multi-trunk: Silver maple (had reduced from 9 trunks to 6 a few weeks back). The spindly one right above the slide is an ash. There's a cluster of 3 just to the right of the swingset: 2 silver maples and 1 elm. The big guys on the back property line: HATEFUL Box Elder--ugly form, drops lots of deadwood on my hosta and has those NASTY bugs!
