Results: #1 is sort of a mystery, to be honest I don't know what it is. The leaves seem more oval shaped than the rest. -------------------- #2 is basjoo #3 is dwarf cavendish #4 is Orinoco I thought #1 might be basjoo but the more it grows, it does not seem similar. It sort of looks like a Saba (just from the pics I've seen on the Internet). I dug it up at a local nursery. Here is the pic I found on bananas.org of a saba, and it looks very similar: Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

When I saw the title for this thread, I thought oh-oh, maybe I better not have a look at it. Well you see, I like taking pictures of hostas, especially hosta with water drops, fall hostas and closeups. But I don't need to add another photo category---I can barely keep up with the photos that I have taken. And then it happened, I looked and love the pictures herein! So I have Beverly to thank for opening my eyes to fall hosta picture taking, Luuk for closeup photos and now Mac for black and white photos! Here I go:

On the subject of planting leaves. I did this same thing this summer. I had been to my local nursery for the late season sale and spotted an American Hero that appeared to be sporting. Sadly I already had one in the ground at home so i passed over it in favor of expanding my collection with many others. The plant in question had two "crowns" (correct term for hosta divisions?) that were fully two inches taller than the rest of the regular white centered leaves and were dark green with even darker green margins. I told myself it was probably just reverting and i probably wouldn't want that particular plant anyway. Of course i looked it up when i got home and discovered American Hero to be a sport of Revolution(a plant with even more white than AH). I went back the next weekend, found it and bought it. I brought it home with the idea of splitting the larger division off and planting it separately. Imagine my shock when the two tops simply popped off with the slightest manipulation of the crown and fell to the ground. I was somewhat depressed and just put the AH in the ground hoping that what was beneath those tops will return in the spring and just set the two amputations off to the side. The next day i returned to the scene of the crime and as I was examining the amputated crowns I noticed some cracks in the soil near my Whirlwind and thought what the heck. Stuck em in the cracks,packed em in, gave em a drink and proceeded to watch them for two months in which they never wilted and even outlasted many of my non-abused plants when the colder weather showed up. Needless to say I was impressed and have my fingers crossed for next spring. So, no, Sheila you are not alone P.S. my mom is from Bloomfield and my dad hails from Yankton.

fleur222, good question! At first when estate came up for me, I thought, huh, I don't like grand and stuffy but then I looked at the examples and my other results and realized that my style is classic and tradition with a twist. I look around my house and see my mix of family heirlooms and antiques along with new contemporary pieces and rich colors and think, yup, that's right. (take my interpretation with a grain of salt. I really should be in bed asleep but that coffee I had this morning is keeping me up. After giving it up for 9 months, I guess a little goes a long way now.) My plan for my kitchen is medium walnut stained red oak floors, quartersawn white oak cabinets with a raised panel for lower perimeter cabinets, island and hutch (stained lighter than the floors), creamy beige painted upper cabinets (our existing GO oak cabs), satin finished butterfly blue granite, beige subway tile, oil rubbed bronze cabinet hardware and lighting. And cheery red pinch pleat curtains at the windows because they make me smile. ;-) plllog, you're right, it's not a very well designed website. They didn't get their money's worth.
