Wow, I've been busy googling---who knew there were so many to choose from! You all gave me so many more choices than I found on my own when I did searches for "tall white perennials" :) Campanula, I love the foxglove idea.... When does it bloom and for how long? Also, the Penstemon is very pretty---I have never seen it before! I definitely need something bold there--- So far I think phlox, digitalis, and penstemon are my best bets. Even the obedient plant wasn't showy enough to be seen from the street---I need a big 'ol white flower. The lilies would work too... but I'm not a huge fan. As far as a picture, I never took one when the obedient plant was blooming! It was pretty, but didn't quite give the 'pop' that the allium did.... which is what prompted a new search :) Thanks so much for all of your help---lots to think about

I wanted to add my input. In the past I worked for a lady who had an espaliered C. sasanqua Named Hana Jiman. It was on a north facing brick wall and right up against the wall, it was over 10 years of age when I started working for her and no one had pruned it because simply no one knew how to espalier. So I took on the project one day and cut it back drastically to get it back within bounds and to shape it. The next month when I was back the same Hana Jiman had produced lots of new growth so I began to shape and prune only to shape and get the buds growing in the right directions. So this went on all summer, I pruned 3-4 times come late summer buds begin to set so I ceased pruning except for any late straggledy growth. By the begining of October the plant begin to flower and what a site to behold. The whole plant top to bottom side to side was a wall of single white 4inch flowers with a pink tint. It bloomed from October - December. So the key to pruning is cut back new growth to between 2 - 6 leaves the plant will quickly flush new growth again let harden slightly prune again this can happen 3-4 times before bud set time. So each flush of growth will set buds on that growth then the next and so on for a continuous flushing of flowers. Come spring you can cut off much of all that now older growth and start over. But the regular pruning will cause you to not have to ever prune drastically. Now my question is why does it have to be white? Any of the pink, whites or reds or bicolors will be beautiful and a pink shade may compliment the brick color. Hope this helped.

I'm much more patient, but I have space to give to slackers, if I like them. Right now 75% of my iris have bloomed. Many of the remaining have buds. Of those that did not bloom, 8 I got 2 years or more ago with no blooms yet :( , but some of those were tiny when I got them from the same trade & didn't expect bloom for a while, although I really did this year. Another 6 or so I just got last year-but some of those are lates & may still bloom. I divided several clumps last year, 3 of those did not bloom-some of the rhizomes were big enough to bloom, but didn't. I'm surprised, but that happens. I do have 2 iris that just don't seem to multiply well & only grow big enough to bloom every other year. This was their year. Batik is an odd one-I got it several years ago, took 3 years to bloom the first time. It bloomed 3 years in a row, then I divided it, didn't bloom 2 years & I moved it again & it still hasn't bloomed. I think once it is settled it will bloom every year. Maybe.

Isn't it strange how sometimes you can move something about 1 ft and it will do so much better than where it was before? Oh Wow, I just love all of Barry Blyths irises. I only have a few and of course I didn't pay a whole lot for them. If I had plenty of money I'd buy a bunch of them. However, I'm on a fixed income and if I paid $50 for an iris I'd have to do without something I really needed around here. I guess I'll have to continue buying my irises from AIS sales and so forth. I figure I did pretty good considering I would have paid less than 50 cents a piece for all the one's I got last week. That is of course when they were getting ready to close for the day. Although I ended up with over 100 different irises there were several of a bunch of them. I figure I got somewhere between 250-300 iris rhizomes. Anyone want to come help me finish up planting them? I pray my labels from Paw Paws come in today. Just incase they don't I bought 100 of those flags like they mark your phone lines and so forth with. I can at least write the names on there until the labels do come in. I bought alot of bicolored irises this spring. Poem of Ecstasy was one of them. I'm sorry but that just looks like it should be in every womens garden. (grin) I've never heard of Zurbrigg Iris Lee, as ya'll can all see I don't have alot of knowledge about any of the irises.
