Raised bed, cold weather temps...

Hello all!!

So let me start by saying thanks for the advice in advance!

Now this year, I got bit by the Iris bug, bad. I bought a bunch from 3 vendors, and put in a new bed. It's raised, but only by about 6-8 inches. Has great drainage, but got ahead of myself and didn't watch the spot a year before digging it, and it is now in full shade. We've also had a lot of rain recently, and it's staying wet. So in hopes of not letting the whole bed rot, I rigged a tarp to catch the rain we have coming in tomorrow, and keep it off my already damp bed. (Live and learn, right?)

So since the Iris I've had for years has been in full sun, I've never really had to worry much about winterizing. But now, with this raised bed, and the very shaded winter ahead, do I need to do anything else?

I know mulch on Rhizomes is a big no-no. So should I just not worry about it, and not do anything special for the new bed? If it helps I can include a picture later.

Any advice is welcomed!! Thanks!

-Liz
