Recommendation for a good solid deep green hosta
Comments (22)Green Fountain looks awesome. Maybe in a later order. I thought about ordering Lakeside Black Satin but didn't. Woke up this morning hoping I was remembering wrong and actually had - nope. Maybe next year. I ordered Lakeside Foiled Plot and Devon Green for my greens. Plus Tokudama Aureonebulosa, which I've been desparately wanting and a couple others that caught my eye. Looking to forward to their arrival!...See MoreIs the Fall a good time to move hostas?
Comments (9)z5 is less than one quarter the US and shares a very unique characteristic - a cold low temperature of between 10 and 20 below zero. Not that zones matters all that much as to when you can move hostas. Many people move hostas when ever they want/need to move hostas for many many valid excellent reasons. I divided an Albo Marginata this week because it was crowding out my Aztec Treasure AND I needed to fill a blank spot. Now that all my hostas have finally reached season maturity I only NOW recognize which hostas are getting too big for their locations. One of my Patriots has been nearly swallowed by a Lancifolia - something needs to move, I have yet to decide what. Fall is a good time to divide as the aesthetics of hostas are on the wane and division usually does some minor damage to existing hosta leaves. If you are moving the entire hosta move it now, water it it in well and keep it well watered and you get to enjoy it all summer right where you want it!...See MoreWhat hosta will look good in this pot?

Comments (6)Now is the time hostas are developing their root systems so I would get them planted now. As far as the landscape fabric, DON’T DO IT! I don’t know how experienced of a gardener you are, but if you lay it, one day you will be really sorry. Root systems get stuck in it. Plants and trees. I used it in a front bed probably 20 years ago, as a novice gardener and tho much has gotten literally cut and torn out over the years, there are still places where it got so intertwined with the trees ( which were just little arborvitae bushes at the time) that there is still black landscape fabric twisted around in the bed out front. The best thing to do for hostas is plant them, mulch them in good, not too close to the plant base and water them well. You never want to have to dig through fabric if you want to move a plant. i don’t know where you live, city, state and growing zone are helpful as what works for me here in Wisconsin, May not work for you if you are in Texas. We usually put this information in our handle which you can change in your settings. For today, wherever you live what I said is applicable. Seems you are knew to the forum, so welcome. We will enable you with hostas as much as we can. Good luck! Post your results! Debra...See Morenutmeg4061
