Good grief! Is it suppose to let up soon? Is there any way you could get the plants off the ground so that the water could drain out while their getting rain. So that their not sitting in puddles of it?

We have gotten tons of rain here too, it stopped for about 1 hr but then started. We did get some pooling water but I am lucky we are too high up to get that kind of flooding. I hope it slows soon for you, that is crazy.

Yipes! Some people soak their plants for 24 hours after they get them in the mail and it doesn't harm them. Hopefully your yard will drain by then. One time I recall a poster here had them sitting under Spring rains for a couple weeks9!) and he (Hank Zumach) had the most beautiful hostas that inspired Papou to begin his hosta gardens. Be brave...

ilovetogrow - would agree, find your potted plants some shelter from the downpour. However, the pots appear to have drainage holes, so no damage done. I would love to send you some turface I bought by mistake used for puddles on baseball fields.

Hey hey, Paula, you are a bit under the weather there!!!
OMG, that is more rain than we got a couple of weeks ago....and I thought 17 inches in 36 hours was a lot. You have topped that.

However, it will dry out quickly,and you will be having to water things again. Like we were initially supposed to have a piece of that storm system. Don't you know we have not gotten a DROP of rain!!! Too bad, because I held off watering expecting to be inundated with it. So tomorrw after I visit the doc, I'll be watering again. Before we reach the 101 degrees predicted for next week, I'm moving things yet again to a shadier spot. Even though it says "shade tolerant" I think that shade is pretty well lit up.

I lost one plant with the rain, it was Eskimo Pie, because there was a broken piece of pottery in the bottom of the pot, and it blocked the drain hole. I did not see it until the heat began again, and the petiole keeled over. We only had about 4 inches of water standing in a good part of the garden, so not as bad as you have it in Jax.

Keep your powder dry, not exactly sure what to say about your potted plants. Any high ground? In Louisiana there is a saying, It's hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp when you're knee deep in alligators.

I am high and dry again. That does not happen often here and I am very lucky my house is not on a slab. My neighbors were worse off than I was. I just had a river through my garage. Now to dry off. It is said to be 97 deg here today. That was a cool rain and I did enjoy being in it for a while.

Drainage to me is the most important thing in growing in pots. One hole is good 5 is better. I also use a fast draining potting mix. I was out back looking for damage and all I saw was my girls smiling back at me. My hostas were in hog heaven. They were loving this rain. Off to work have a great grow day all, Paula

Where hostas coming from there are monsoons in fall. Perhaps they also endure 23 inches of rain in one session every year. The US is much short of the average of 70 inches of rain the hostas are getting in their lands of origin, so the 23 inches helps to get to that average.

Your yard looks like how mine did in March. My yard floods like this almost every year. In the pictures it had actually gone down some since the rain had stopped at 3 in the morning. It was up to the house then and no grass at all. This was after a slow moving storm with lots of rain and an awesome lightning show. Pictures were taken at 8am on the 16th of March this year.

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. All is well here and I am quickly drying out. It almost looks like spring as everything is so clean. The hostas were loving it and rumor has it there was a diving board and jet skis available. Karen, I hope that the water went down as fast as mine did. There is standing water around Jax and many stalled cars still out there but we are getting back to normal. Here is what I look like normally. Sorry for the double photo last night. Most of it was gone by the afternoon. There is a storm drain by the road on the property line, but in the lower areas it stayed pooled for a couple of weeks. We have too many trees to tile the yard properly. Along the property line, the side where the storm drain is, I've dug out a trench from the backyard to the drain to help direct the water to the drain. The hostas and daylilies don't seem to be bothered by it too much but some of my other plants cannot handle flooding. Heuchera do not like being underwater for very long, learned that the hard way losing a few to flooding. I've since moved the rest to a bit higher ground around the garage and the house and will plant any new ones by the house as well.
