What is your most exciting iris acquisition in '06

I've had so many it is hard to choose, but here are some of my "exciting" new arrivals that I can't wait to see bloom.

I added 176 named bearded iris to my collection this year. I ordered from six commercial vendors and bought from several vendors on ebay. The ones that really got me excited were two boxes from two different iris friends. I had no idea what they were sending so I was like a kid at Christmas when I received those boxes. All iris are special but they are really special when someone go to the trouble to send you a surprise box of iris. Thanks again for making this a special iris summer. Lee Mincy

I'm really excited about 3 roses - cl. 'Florence Bowers' Pink Tea' One of the last two roses I bought from Vintage gardens before it closed There are so very few climbing Tea roses, a handful compared to what seems to be hundreds of climbing Hybrid Teas. Originally when I bought my property I wished to plant a pink climbing Tea over an archway leading to my front door, the only problem was that there were no pink climbing Tea roses available in North America although climbing Mrs. B.R.Cant was found in the U.S. in 1961 it is no longer in commerce. . Florence Bowers Pink Tea' is anything but "another pink rose", it shows pink in many of the hues seen in a tropical fruit punch: guava pink, grapefruit pink blending with orange- juice- orange in the center. The outer petals have a spikiness at times which along with the colors give a lively personality to this rose. I'm so glad I bought it!!! I hope it will root for me from cuttings. -cl. Kaiserin Auguste Viktoria' I swore I wouldn't buy another rose without seeing it in person first BUT several folks posted about the good fragrance of this rose and I always need another Old Rose and white roses are my favorite, and I love the elegant bloom form, but alas, not so fond of the type of scent, it smells of slightly rotting vegetation to me. (what the frelll?) It's fully evergreen where I live, another plus, so I will gladly forgive my own olfactory failings. most likely ' Mme. Lombard' because I took cuttings from 3 Tea roses last summer from Mme. Lombard, Mme. Antoine Mari and Lady Hillingdon and this one appears to be Mme. Lombard, according to its' foliage and prickles, but a fair number of the blooms show white stripes against pink hues. Is this common in Mme. Lombard? Papa Gontier sported into Rainbow, so this would not be a unique finding in this class. If I have any money left from paying my cats' dental and surgical bills (William the Conqueror is doing fine, by the way) I hope to purchase a Etoile de Lyon and another Marachal Niel so I can learn how to bud it onto 'Gloire des Rosomanes'. My Ice Plant, Verbena and African Daises have all done very well, survived the coldest winter I've seen here, down to 18 degrees F. (- 8 degrees C.) even! And hot weather as hot as 120 degrees! My Calendulas have always survived just fine, but need a little more water. My Calendulas had flowers fully bloomed this year on the day the temperature got down to 18 degrees F.!!! I couldn't believe it! Other garden also survived that extreme cold (Verbena, African Daisies, Dusty Miller, Ice Plant, Kohlrabi, Chinese Cabbage, Radishes, Stinging Nettle and a few others. Potatoes died that day (18 degrees F.). Geraniums died back, but now they are coming back stronger than ever. I thought the African Daisies would not make it, but they pulled through (just barely).

oohh goodness - that is a hard question. But if I must name just a few - here goes. For rapid increase and ever blooming status - the blue ribbon goes to SPECIAL CANDY For ability to settle in quickly and send up a scape within two weeks of arrival - the blue ribbon goes to HALF MOON KEY Tis a stretch of the rules - but since this is a new seedling to bloom this year - it could be considered a new acquisition. Blue ribbon for the favorite bonus plant of the season goes to BUBBA ON TOUR - a blooming maniac that was extremely fertile to boot! And last but not least - my favorite new pink this year goes to PINK ALOHA Shelly

In your above photo of the white iris, you'll note a sort of flesh-colored bud in the bottom right corner...that should be Beverly Sills...the bloom color is much prettier than the bud (fortunately!). She's generally prolific, both with plant and blooms. The one I suspected was going to be Grand Waltz surprised me & turned out to be Ringo. I'll get a pic and send later. Patrick

I will enjoy. I knew they were sending me something. I just did not know what or how many. I was watching for the mail carrier every day after they said they had mailed them. I was glad they did not arrive the same day. One had 36 named iris and the other had 32 named iris.

Since you didn't specify bearded, I'll tell you the two I am most excited about, Iris pseudacorus X ensata "Aichi-no-kagayaki", and Iris virginica 'Contraband Girl'. I'm looking forward next year to seeing the foliage even more than the flower.

Sounds like everyone has new intro's! I am just enjoying just putting clusters of iris together to see how they come out. For instance:

I have a pretty small front garden, but this year I managed to shoehorn in a few more rhizomes and expand a little further into a neighbor's parking strip (world conquest being the goal here). Ordered about 25-- had space for about 5. I had to pull out a few to accommodate new orders and auction acquisitions;

I'm most psyched about ones that aren't 2006 intros:
Tour de france (Keppel)
Visual Intrigue (Tasco 05)
Slovak Prince (Mego)

But also looking forward to:
Prime Power (Tasco 06)
Night Moves (Lauer 06)
Honeycomb (Lauer 06)
Breath of dawn (Sutton 05)

Some of the new ones are from the local auction --which is always an exciting way to make an acquisition!!!

I won't know until it blooms next spring since I was unable to go to OR for the convention, but I fell for Ernst's FORTUNE AND FAME from the picture in TALL TALK. Have you ever seen a 'banded broken color' iris?
