I really have to confess. I have bought most of my bulbs at VB wholesale. The reason I am reluctant to mention them is that some people have have negative experiences in that the bulbs were dryed out or rotted. Never happened to me but I have had the other problem they are known for, which is bulbs blooming that were not what they supposed to be. This spring I ordered Tinos bulbs from them that turned out to be Orange Electric when they bloomed. Turned out well, because those looked even better were I planted them than what I had picked out would have been. But my red tango lillies I ordered were melon colored tango lillies, which I already had and didn't need more of. The Trumpet lillies were almost all white ones, no colors and the hybreds that were supposed to be all these interesting patterens and colors were all white. Those are really pretty but too much white, I wanted some color. But I had bought some oriental mix lilies the year before that I planted en mass in an area in the front yard and its just stunning. I also have an area of mixed colors tango lillies I got from them, again stunning. I like to plant in a large display by digging a trench and planing bulbs and I can't do that by buying bulbs at the other places I listed. But since I did start to add all sorts of trumpets and trumpet hybrids this year, I only bought 3-5 bulbs of each kind and planted them in varius places around the garden. Hi, Thanks Karen. Yes, I think I will have to plant them all. For some of my crosses there are only a couple seeds that I am sure have an embryo. For others, the whole pod was full of what are obvious seeds, not just the paper stuff. I looked at some of the images online but still am not positive whether some of the thinner/paper like ones are viable or not. They "kinda" look like there is a line in there but they are soooo very thin it just not so obvious one way or the other. Guess it will just take some experience. I've been told that the fall (after they die back) is the best time to divide them.

Keep an eye out for bags and boxes of tubers. They are even cheaper than the pitiful plant pile at a big box. I know Sam's has boxes of them, not sure the price. They bloom for me in late May early June. I've picked up a box of bulbs and planted them in March and had them bloom that year. Sometimes they are starting to grow in the box / bag and they don't mind at all. BUT Since it will likely freeze again. If you happen to get a box and they are sprouting, I would plant deep enough to cover the sprout or put in a pot and pretend you are getting ready for Easter....grins.
