Warning Southern Gardeners: I lost my whole Mid-America Shipment

Just a word up to those in the southern US. I've been planting my irises in the summer for the past few years with no negative consequences; however, this past couple of weeks, due to heavy moisture, I am now reaping the results of my stupidity. I had four new irises planted in mid-August, and every one rotted like I've never seen: the fans and area of the rhizome directly under the fans were just turned into mush. Normally, it's dry enough that nothing happens. Joseph Ghio sends his rhizomes in mid-July, and those I planted from him back in July are absolutely thriving.

I hope fellow warm weather gardeners will heed my advice and plant later. I cannot believe this has happened and won't make this mistake again.
