I lost 4. Tried them in different locations, in a pot and they all dwindled down to nothing. I have seen pictures of mature plants so it is possible. I guess just not possible for me ;) I often wonder if maybe a division off of mature plant would survive.
I am Naperville, IL. area. If it is near me I would still like to take a look at it
I saw it for 25.00 so I am glad with all the problems everyone seems to have I did not ordered one for that price. I was going to see if where I work if they could order it for resale next year but the Perennial's manager was not in today.
Ken, 8 is a lot to loose.
I thought about over wintering it in my mini greenhouse instead of in the ground. Any thoughts on that.

I couldn't paste a direct link just google this info. From Naperville it's probably a 1 1/2 hr. It's straight down 355 then over to 80 West to 57 South. Map it.
It's worth the ride...they carry over 450 varietites. By Mothers Day they sold 200 varieites but they just replenished. Call and ask for Jean and she will tell you if she still has any..they were $10...I have 2 for many years and they are large and thriving.
It sometimes depends on the tissue culture. There is alot more than what is listed on their site just call and ask her what you want...it's worth the trip!!!! You will save alot of money! There are a few of us that go there from this forum and infact we will be going again maybe next week. Plan on spending a couple of hours it's 5 acres+ inside and a few outside. I live in Lansing, IL
Hi Stephanie, I'm in Tinley Park, not to far from you. I got my 'Tattoo' from Sunrise too. Thanks to Hostareds recommendation (Thanks Hostared!) I've gotten most of my hostas there over the last couple of years. I agree that Jean is great and their selection is terrific.
Hostared are you by any chance going to the Northwest Indiana Hosta Society plant sale and auction on Sunday?
Thanks for the info. They do have a lot. I checked her list and it does not show any Tattoo at all but there were a few others that I see I would not mind having.
Dan, your tattoo is really pretty. How long have you had it? As soon as I get a few other weekend projects out of the way I will have to make a trip there.
Hostared, do you get a discount for sending all of use there? lol
Hi Stephanie - I live in Crystal Lake and have been corresponding with hostared for a couple of years (we met here!). She kept telling me about Sunrise (Woldhuis) Nursery in Grant Park so finally last year ('08) I met her there. I thought I had found a good place here near Harvard, but when I got to Sunrise I LITERALLY WENT NUTS. I bought about 25 that day. The prices were at least half of anywhere else - some were a fraction. There were more hostas in one place than I have ever seen and this was the end of July. And they were, of course, bigger than even mail order and much more beautiful because they were in pots. I'm going to go next week or the week after (I'm waiting for hostared to get a day off work because I want to meet her there)...but I called 'Jean' (the Hosta Queen) who works at Sunrise (at hostared's suggestion) this Wednesday and she said she has just replenished her supply. She is so knowledgeable about them and you can even call and ask her if she has what you want. It takes me an hour and a half to get there but it's SOOOOO worth it. They have everything.....the Japanese Maples were also a fraction of anywhere else and the annuals were amazing.
GO.

You don't need a discount. Nothing is over $20 and most are $7 - $12. And I am talking about plants that sell well over $25 - $40!!!! Stephanie there are many that they have that are not on that list. And I am not talking about tiny plants! These are beauties! Great selection of mini's and smalls. You'll go nuts...bring your credit card! lol There are other items also. Great baskets, flats, conifers and shrubs. Well worth the trip.
Dan we are thinking about it...we went last year and its fun. But I told Jean we do have a graduation party to go to. Can't figure out how to get out of it but you never know we may show up. Good group of people. Jean is always asking us to come to meetings. We may do so this year. They are a crazy bunch! Do you belong Dan? And are you going to the auction?
Stephanie, I got it last year I think, or possibly the year before.
Hostared, yes I am a member and yes I am going. I joined this past winter at the Winter Scientific Meeting and haven't been able to go to any meetings yet because they have all fallen on days that I had family functions to go to. I'm looking forward to it. Hope to see you there. P.S. I lived in Lansing for 6 years before moving to Tinley. Small world.
