Anyone have 'Warwick Ballerina'?

I bought a one-eyed division in 2005, last year it stayed the same size, well this year not only is it three eyes, but the leaves are considerably larger (7"-8" round).

I would love to see what a mature clump looks like (sorry, hosta library pic doesn't give me a good sense of scale). Can anyone posta pic for me?

I've never grown Ballerina in alkaline soil, but I have had an odd experience with it in terms of grafted and own root. Back in my garden design days, I would order own root Ballerinas from Heirloom. They were all very healthy. Later, I bought two grafted ones (Dr. Huey) from two different nurseries at two different times. Neither has been as healthy as the own roots. They 've been moved a couple of times (full sun to partial shade) but still presented some blackspot. Nothing major but noticeably different than the Heirloom own roots planted in a number of different gardens in a variety of conditions. Interesting, yes? My experience with Belinda matches the data above. She grows a bit larger and sprawls a bit more, but she handles pruning well, so she can be as tidy as you like. She can also be trained as a modest fluffy climber, as can Ballerina. Belinda's color is quite bright and then fades in that antique photograph sort of way. Ballerina's color in full sun in hot climates will fade a little too quickly for my taste. I love it in partial shade. Both take partial shade very well, but I've found Ballerina takes more shade in stride. Carol

As I mentioned above, the sellers that can't send potted plants to Idaho are Edmunds Roses, Jackson&Perkins, Park Seed, and Wayside Gardens. The last three listed are all in the same company. There may be more forbidden sellers that I don't know of. The desert is not prime ag land. I live out in the desert hills. There is prime ag land in the river valley areas just a few miles away. This is made possible by irrigation, as I've mentioned many times before. My stepdad pumped water with electric pumps out of the Snake River directly because he had first water rights. That water was further pumped to his concrete ditches where it was distributed to each row in a field. Huge sprinkler systems are also used. The wonderful water begins in our mountains as the valuable snow pack, which melts and eventually makes its way to rivers. Lots of this water is stored in reservoirs behind dams to be released as needed. The dams produce hydroelectric power as well, which is where all our electricity here comes from. Diane

Thanks a bunch Ken. That is a great help. Its a nice shaped mound and I'm glad to see the leaves retain their round shape when the plant gets bigger.

Yours is a lot larger than mine, I think I need to relocate it to a roomier spot so it can fill out.

its leave are NOT round.. they are cordate.. or heart shaped ....

but i know what you mean .... rounded hearts ...

Hmmm, cordate...I probably should have known that, sigh, I've learned something new (that's a good thing). Thanks, don't like being ignorant. What size is your plant? 2' wide?

Kattydid, looking at your pic, the leaves seem less cordate in appearance (I just learned that term), much more elongated, and they don't have the heavily pie-crusted edge I'm familiar with. Are you sure yours is WB?
