whats your favorite pink iris.

My mother saw my only pink(Change of Pace) in bloom and has decided she wants a few pinks that are tall with large blooms and she wants me to find and order them for her. I,m not into pink so didn,t even bother to look while I was at Schreiners a few weeks ago. Can any of you recommend a few good ones for someone who has a black thumb. She managed to kill almost all the day lilies I bought her.

My favorite pink still available is Alice Goodman, an older ('93) graceful pastel pink.

Anna Belle Babson by Hager (AM'89) is very pretty.

Kentucky Woman - Schreiner'97 - is less peachy-pink than Beverly Sills and new in my garden - good vigor but not as 'delicate' as I like. Vigor is what your Mom will need if she's not a gardener.

I'm eager to have Valentine's Day (AM'01).

There are many newer pinks people are wowed by. When I'm ordering sight unseen I do look for awards. Pictures don't tell the entire story and can be deceptive. Good luck.

Pink Impression is my favorite. Very perennial (mine have been coming back for 5-6 years!), fist-sized flowers, tall and regal. There is a Red Impression as well but I haven't tried it. I'm sure it would force well but it might be kinda big indoors.

I don't have many pinks, and most of the ones I have look rose-ish or cream-ish here, despite what the registration info says. Maybe it's the soil. Maybe it's my definition of pink - because I offer as an excellent pink FLAMING BULL, by Bud Bennett: http://www.daylilies.org/DaylilyDB/detail.php?id=155209&name=Flaming Bull He registered it as rosy red; to me,it looks like a deep pink. Maryl, Bud Bennett is the hybridizer of WILD CHERRY WINE, too. He sends out paper catalogs only (no pictures in them), and these days (he's in his 80s), he has a relatively small number of intros per year, probably around six (?). I believe he hybridizes dips only, but I might be mistaken about that. He's a Region 3 hybridizer, and you'll probably find his plants mostly in Region 3 gardens. I think WILD CHERRY WINE is one of his best-known ones. If you want some of his plants, one source is Woodhenge Gardens; at least a year ago, I'm pretty sure Margo and Jim were listing some of his plants. I have to buy IN HOT PURSUIT and PARTY PINAFORE!

I went on a Daylily tour, and I got to compare Silken Touch, Southern Gentleman, and Awash with Color - which were all a very similar peachish-pink. I also saw a combination of Palladian Pink, Rhythm & Blues, and Frosted Pink Ice (along with some others), which I really liked. Next to Palladian Pink, I wrote "pink Rhythm & Blues"; and next to Rhythm & Blues, I wrote "lavender Palladian Pink" ... but I never thought to compare Palladian Pink with the other three up above. Is Palladian Pink a true pink that would not clash with other pink and lavender flowers? Thanks, Sharon

Thanks for your replies everyone. When I was at Niche yesterday I went ahead and got another Sinfonietta, just in case. We moved our house last year and I wasn't sure if I still had Sinfonietta anymore, and it's a gorgeous color. I was thinking of getting I. giganticerula, since I thought it would be nice to have all of the plants that went into the breeding of the Lousiana iris. I have I. versicolor, I. virginica, I. fulva, and I. brevicaulis.

Alice Goodman is my favorite pink. I have it next to Beverly Sills, and in my garden, they are the same color: a beautiful warm pink. Alice Goodman is a bit bigger and has more ruffles. The foliage is really a nice blue-green. Alice Goodman reblooms.

If she likes cool pinks or hot pinks, that's a different matter.

One that I just bought and have not yet planted is Jennifer Rebecca, another rebloomer. I think it is more of a pale orchid than a cool pink, but most call it pink. My mom has Sweet Musette, which is just a beauty and very tall. It has cool pink and warm peachy colors.

Lady Friend is a deep rose that changes color all day and is a very early bloomer. I have heard that it reblooms occasionally in warm areas.

None of these are fussy irises. If they can bloom for me, they will bloom for your mom.
