I think Glenda was monitoring this list...

Does anyone know whether P&T is planning to rebuild? Plantin' season's comin up fast, yeah... and they had the kewl stuff...

hey Tami, you bet we are coming back. we had so much damage and finding it hard to get help. but we should be open by early spring if not before. even bigger and better than before!!!!!

Pine Hills Nursery just off the Kiln/D'Isle road is open. They lost most of their greenhouses. Basically what they have right now are trees and shrubs. They hope to start getting bedding plants about april. Along with grass plugs. (I need those, for the dead areas in the front lawn.) And top soil to fill the cavaties of the downed trees. The nursery on the Kiln/Waveland road. Just down from Plant's and Things is open. (I can never remember their name.) They lost all their greenhouses. Told me they had 25 feet of salt water on the property. They aren't selling anything but palms right now. (I was thinking of replacing the mature Magnolia with 2 large sable palms. And if they survived Katrina...) And they plan to soon be getting other trees. Hardwoods, etc.

In warm climates like mine, many people leave the blooms on the bushes. Especially old types of roses will still keep blooming, but you will get rose hips along with the new flowers. In the wintertime bushes covered with hips are very pretty. My hybrid musks, which have clusters of tiny blooms, make clusters of tiny hips which are so great looking I use them in flower arrangements. Rose hips are full of Vit C. In WW II, in England where they were short on food and everything they usually imported (because the Germans were torpedoing all of the ships), the govt. called on English gardeners to collect their rose hips for the govt to use to make Vit C. Since in England EVERYONE (practically) is a gardener with roses, this worked great. Jackie

I'm liking the idea of the horsetail reed grass in the third to last picture you provided or the grass in the last photo. 'Cascading hair' would look interesting too, so I'm toying with the idea of a double effect: adding another planter behind the fabric planter and filling with a trailer or two, such as sweet potato vines.

I'm with Tami. What kind of help do you need? I drove by today and got depressed. If we can co-ordinate. I can donate occasional saturday mornings; if it'll help. Be it in the garden area or helping rebuild. (I'm more a woodworker than a carpemter, but did renovate a 160 yr old Creole Cottage in the upper 9th ward. So I have some skills.)

Hey Danbo,
Thanks for the generous offer, we really appreciate all of you supporting us. We couldn't imagine asking our customers to help us with our mess. We are managing it well, just don't have enough time in the day to do everything we want and need to do but we'll get there sooner or later. The help I was referring to was government assistance of any kind. We have found out the hard way that if you are honest, hard working, tax paying citizens you don't even count when the need arises!!!! It's so unreal and unbelievable how the government actually is so unfair. Oh well we started with nothing and we can do it again just maybe a little more knowledge this time around. If you have passed by in the last couple weeks you must have seen we are getting very close now. Thanks for caring.

Just went by there today. Love that place. Its like a jungle and the owner is very knowledgable. Great selection of tropicals, bamboo and bananas! They have a lot of interesting and hard to find plants too!

Glenda, I use to buy from you and Red about 5 years ago. I moved to Texas but now I’m back. 🤗 Are y’all still able to get banana discard plants? I miss that sweet smell so much
