Iris Pics may help ID your iris

HI

I grow over 400 iris in my home gardens and thought maybe these albums might help some ID their plants.

Please remember that there may be slight differences, re conditions, soil types etc, but the basic colours, do not change, but marking can be slightly different, either not as prominent or more so depending on those conditions, below is an example of those differences.

The plant is Chief Hematite

YEs! Blue suede shoes! Not only do the descriptions say that it is a little tall and blooms a bit late, but I remember the name! I bought it from an iris farm. Sometimes I just need my memory jogged. Prince of TIdes also sounds familiar and is like a another noid iris. Guess I have to post again with that one to see. Thanks so much, you guys are great!

Great id pics. I think 'Alpine Glow' also. The only other close one is 'Easter Bonnet' and it has a little golden climbing up the outer edges of the standards plus color not as intense.

These are dutch iris. They have a bulb a little smaller and more rounded than a daffodil, with a brown papery coat. Reticulata bulbs are much smaller and more elongated, with a crisscross patterned outer coat, like netting.

Sugar Blues has a wonderful fragrance, but I'm not sure it's got that much white on the hafts. I went out to check mine, but that last bloom shriveled up :( Babbling Brook looks like a possibility to me, but I can't find a reference to BB being fragrant.. Best to order one to compare. I've got 4 different blues that I've been trying to attach a name to for years.. Just now, looking at Schreiner's site, I may have found a name for one. Happy!

re the question as to what camera all i know it was a Cannon (film) as friend took the pics,

My camera is a Cannon A430 and here are a few shots from it, the thing i like about mine is the true colour and the macro is excellent

Thanks Brommad. I'm familar with many of the iris at your album site and I thought the color capture was accurate on many.

And thanks for the extra pics with your A430. I have its predecessor, the A95. I think your 'French Gown' may be the id someone is searching for. Maybe I can find her post.

Great pics and thanks for helping me id "Star Status" which came from someone's trash pile. I guess the previous owner didn't rate it a star! My friends and I think it is pretty stellar, though.

It's so good to see more photos from Australia. It drives me crazy how hard it is to find more photos of Blyth irises. I can't even begin to imagine how many great varieties have slipped through the cracks here in America. I think the last count I heard was that Barry's up to 800+ introductions and I probably haven't even seen photos of a quarter of them.

I add more every year, but I don't think I'll ever be able to get anywhere near finding all of his intros. let alone buying them.
