Hi Robert. I am a huge tomato fan and grow a lot of heirloom tomatoes, although almost all of them in soil. Brandywine is one of my favorites. There are several strains and colors; I am still figuring out which ones I like the best. Red Brandywine is often a different plant with each seed company.

The final outcome from ebb and flow Brandy wine tomatos the plants had to be trained growing up the side wall of our house, there are more tomatos still green yet to ripen.
My soil based Brandy wine tomatos are slow growing even with all correct nutrients . I think because we have had an exceptionally hot summer down under , the hydroponically grown tomatos got the correct amount of moisture to continue growing.

Very nice pic! That is a Red Brandywine. There are several strains, as it was a tomato that was so popular that "Brandywine" became a synonym for "good tomato."

Have you had a chance to taste test the fruit of your hydro plants against the soil ones?

The hydroponic tomatos seem to have more intense flavour and have a higher moisture content.
This is the second year I have grown (Red) Brandy Wine tomatos in my hydroponics and what is more important the poor plants have had to use the same nutrient mix as my chinese vegetables in the other 5 trays, yet it just goes to show that these tomatos can grow under some strange conditions, keeping in mind that these tomatos are heirloom and originate as an Amish Pennsylvanian North America variety, not a sub tropical variety where we had a week of temperatures that reached 111F , and still survived.
