Nutrients Question (Phosphate)
Comments (10)Hi Tom, >>Im a little confused now about the Ingredients of the what they in the books call Solution A..With solution A they mean 1 of 2 components. You probably found out that you can't mix certain salts in concentrated form and hence need to split them in A and B. >>My Question: Mono Amoniac Phosphate and Potassium Phosphate Mono are the same? (I think not) Are both of this Nutrientsalts working good? If yes, are the concentrations the same? Both are not the same but very distinct ingredients/components. Hence the concentrations are different as well. Both are used to provide P (Phosphorus) and either N or K to the formula. Potassium Phosphate Mono is more commonly used, and Ammonium Phosphate-mono (or Mono-ammonium Phosphate) can only be used sparingly in a formula (added in small amounts) because it has 12.x parts of ammoniacal Nitrogen. Only a max of 15% ammoniacal Nitrogen can be added to a formula, because of it's relative "toxicity". I am not posting any formulas publicly (anymore) for professional reasons. But you can email me at chiliparadise(at)gmail.com anytime for more details and formulas. I am perfectly fluent in German and French, and I guess one of them should do fine for a swissman, right? ;-) If you want to go on your own instead, a standard lettuce formula (compared to others) is quite easy to get hold of with some more extensive googling. You mainly have two types 1. Higher in Nitrogen (in relation to K) for cooler climates and indoors, and 2. Somewhat higher in Potassium (compared to N) for hot-, summer or tropical climates. Any lettuce formula should do for basil, as basil thrives quite well with almost any formula....See Morenew set up... nutrient question
Comments (8)Thanks Grzzman... You put forward something I had not thought of... however I think I misslead the conversation... I am trying to find a good nutrient concentration in general for hydroponics... I know a lot of yhe nutrient is crop specific and I am seriously considering just getting some commercial hydro nutrient.... my setup is deep culture and I have 6 plants per pod of water... I am looking for a middle ground that would be a good starting point... I was trying to stay local and heard that t he medina product I listed above was good even though it is not a specific hydro product. Because of that fact the mix rate is not published and I am killing plants trying to figure it out... :-( Also since this will most likely end in fustration and I will be buying nutrient I also what to get a since of what is good out there... I really want to find a mix that will let me mix and match plants without fusssing too much with the water... I know it will not be optimal but I will get more hands on later right now I just want to see something not die... I realize there could be a multitude of reasons but I really think it is bad water mixing... experimentation so far is ky only method for attempting the mix...See MoreNutrient concentration(EC) and root mass
Comments (4)I think the plant produces more roots when the nutrients are too low. Just like searching for water, they search for nutrient and need to grow bigger and increase their surface area to absorb enough nutrients. If the nutrients are the correct amount, the plant can put more energy into growing leaves, flowers and fruit, instead of roots. That is my thoughts/experience, would like to hear what others have experienced....See MoreNutrient Solution Question
Comments (5)Looking at your pictures, the seedlings are pretty young and shouldnt need any more fertilizer. Again, they really dont need any until you see the second set of true leaves. Another cause could be over watering. In DWC, this seems a bit confusing since the point is to have roots dangling in the solution, but with newly planted seedlings you want your water just below the bottom of the net pot so that only bubbles bursting wet the hydroton. Im saying this without knowing the internal conditions of your system, so you may already know this or have this correct. Another issue could be not enough light. Sounds like this is a possible cause with your light so far above the plants and at 50%. You want your light as close as possible without it burning the plants. You can play with the distance and judge the heat by placing your hand at plant level. Plants love light and need it to produce chlorophyll which is the green we are looking for. In all honesty, with how small the plants are, I wouldnt worry about it too much. You may find in a few days or a week, they may correct themselves, but try making the few adjustments i mentioned and see how they do....See Morelucas_formulas
