The leaves are more than twice a big. It gets more sun, but they are only planted 4 feet apart.

I'm going to bump this up to see if anyone growing this hosta has one that looks like the second one. I have to wonder if its the same hosta or a sport.

Hi Bev, I just bought Delona's Smile and it looks more like picture #1. I hope as it matures its leaves will become more elongated and rippled like the one shown at the link below.

Thanks for posting. I did look at the Green Hill site, but that second hosta just doesn't look like it at all. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens over time, or email Bob Solberg himself. Ponder, ponder, ponder. (This pondering part of gardening is my specialty)

But you did say you got BOTH plants at the national convention and DS was the 2012 convention hosta, so they should be the same... unless one is a tissue culture anomalie????

But is that possible, a tissue culture sport? I don't understand tissue culturing, even though its been explained to me. At least not well enough to know if there is such a thing.

Yes, from what I've heard some sports are from tissue culture. During tissue culture they cull any plants that aren't true to the original.

Another thing to consider, usually the leaves of any cultivar in sun will tend to be smaller than the leaves in more shade and your hosta in sun has larger leaves.

I just hope that my hosta ends up looking like the one on the Green Hill website.
