It would more properly be called a diverter or splitter.There are a number of adapters available to perform this function. Diverting part of the flow to another use such as a UV set-up or a spitter or just to send flow into an area without a sufficient current is a good use for a diverter. It is likely to be some distance from the end of the main outlet. Volume of the flow can be static or adjustable depending on the adapter you choose.It is usually a large main tube with a smaller nipple extending from the side. A splitter usually divides the flow into equal volumes flowing in different directions. It can change a narrow fast waterfall into a wider and slower flow by arrangement of the multiple outlets.The best result is by having the splitter at the end of the main tubing and the tubing from the two outlets from the splitter equal in length so the flow is fairly equal although adjustments can be made to your own liking to allow for such things as different heights, force of the individual flows and flow directions. A splitter is either a T shape or a Y shape.

From the size of your pond I think you should just stick with goldfish. The waterfall accually puts air into the water so that the fish can breathe. If your waterfall is just like a little trickle or there are no bubbles coming up from the water where your waterfall lands then you need to find another way to get air to the fish. I would try to get goldfish from a place that sells ponds supplies etc because a petstore might not have the right kind and might not be able to help you with feeding of fish in an outdoor pond. You will need some plants and some sort of shelter for them incase they get scared. I made a simple one by putting to bricks about 2 inches apart and then putting a flat stone accross it. I suggest getting like one pot of lilly pads though. In the winter, you may have to take them in but if you leave them in there ( they should be fine in two feet of water) make sure there is an open hole in the top of the ice so that toxic gases an escape and you obviously dont want the whole pond to freeze into a block of ice. Also try to keep debree (spell chek) of the bottom of the pond because they can break down and release gases that are toxic to fish (that means no rocks on the bottom)nything else I might of forgot other people can add.

Oh goodie.... a new build! First off.... do you understand the mechanics of Gravity flow? Water wants to be level. If you have two containers of water that are connected by a tube, the water in both will be at the same level. Now take this a step further. One container is your pond, the other container is your filter, and the tube connecting them is the bottom drain line. As water is pumped out of your filter, more water enters your filter by way of the bottom drain line. So lets start at the drain. There are two types.... aerated and non aerated. An aerated drain accomplishes two things. One...it provides great aeration for your pond. But the second thing it does is as the air bubbles rise; currents are created along the bottom towards the drain sweeping all sorts of crud along with it. One of the best 4" aerated drains on the market is the one called "the Koi Toilet". It costs around $225 but is a very well designed and well-made drain. The generic non-aerated drains are around $60. I have used both and like the design of the koi toilet the best. Now the water enters the filter by way of a 4" drain line. There are so many different kind of filters it will just boggle the mind. I have linked to Koishack's construction forum. There are dozens and dozens of pond build threads there. Many have DIY filters and many have factory built filters. I like the DIY ones.... they work just as well and are cheaper. Since your pond is not going to be huge, you can run your skimmer line into the filter as well. In the ideal world, you should have a separate filter for the skimmer so you can regulate flow better and this is what I recommend, but I also understand budget constraints! I like Savio skimmers a lot. They are strong and durable but not very cheap. I like the fact that you can stick a UV light right in them without having to do any separate plumbing. Dont use the Savio brand of UV thoughÂ.use the one made by Emperor Aquatics (Azponds.com sells them). For external pumps, check out Sequence. They are one of the best pumps on the market. For submersible, look at Pondmaster Mag Drive. They are tough and will last for years. For the gravity flow set-up I have described though, you will need an external pump. If you want to use a separate pump on the skimmer, you could use a pondmaster mag-drive right in the skimmer box and pump it directly to your waterfall. For a waterfall, you can use a 100 gallon stock tank and make a skippy filter out of it. The waterfall and the bottom drain lines can flow to it and or you can have just the skimmer line go to the waterfall and let the bottom drain line return under water level to create some nice currents for the fish. Now for some miscellaneous stuff. The BEST bulkhead fittings I have ever used are called Uniseals. They are only sold by a couple of places. I usually order my pond stuff and uniseals from Aquatic Ecosystems in Florida. Uniseals can be used through the walls of any container or filter box. Electrical conduit threaded couplings with an O-ring also work really well and are pretty cheap, but they take up more room. They have to be the gray electrical couplings because regular white PVC couplings wonÂt tighten down all the way. ThereÂ.I think I covered most of it. Is your head spinning yet? Lol! Cindy

umm... u can have both a waterfall and a small skippy. the skippy should have a bottom drain so u can flush the sludge out. place the skippy at the place of where ur waterfall will start, add dirt around the bucket , and start to shape ur waterfall... 12in waterfall that flows directly into a 275 gal pond might disturb the water surface too much so u wont be able to see ur fish, consider having the waterfall go into a stream, then into ur pond
