Any one know what plants are these ?

I bought these so called japanese wonder flowers at NJ flower and garden show from a dutch vendor who comes every year at these shows to sell hardy bulbs.

Does any one know what plants are these ? Wonderflowers seems like just a popular name .. lol. I have a border on one side of my driveway which gets 60% shade and 40% sun. Can I plant these bulbs along this border. I had trouble growing plants which require full sun in this border but calladiums did fine last year. Pls let me know if any other gardeners had luck with this plant.

Googling "wonderflowers" I get a commercial page with a photo of Mirabilis jalapa.

I just bought some at the Chicago Flower show and in looking around I'm finding that it is the bulb Four O'Clocks which is not winter hardy but supposedly reseeds profusely. I think we probably paid too much for bulbs that we could have simply bought some seeds if we wanted Four O'clocks. I'll probably try them just to see what they look like since I've made the investment!!

Well I don't have a for sure answer on this one, The GW swapper did not know anything but really orange in color, when I emailed her back she didnt have a picture I mentioned also the crocosmia maybe could be because I grow that but no the seeds are diffrent. so?? on this one. Know one knows what a really orange crosmocia is me or who?? anyone send us a picture if you have any Idea. I have seen several crocosmias red and yellow and red Lucifer, and amber gold I have grown but I have not seen a all orange one would love to see one. well maybe I will have to plant seeds and see what comes up. :) that's a great way to lighten up a shaded nook. woodland phlox is a great choice for the same area- it makes fairy wands of lavander flowers in the spring, and if it gets even a little sun, it spreads fast. in both cases, you can encourage spreading by light mulching over the stems after they have flopped to the ground, or discourage it by mulching UNDER the stems, or plopping a rock in its way. Japanese painted fern is a favorite of mine- it needs about an hour of sun a day to look its best, but the burgundy and silver veins are prettier than some flowers. one 6-pack starter of impatiens of coleus can go a long way if you pinch them back, and root the babies...not to mention being a great kid project :)

I'd also check Craigslist or some other second-hand way of purchasing it. Those are items that "seemed like a good idea at the time" and then the motivation leaves.....

I totally agree with you melrose. I paid about $15 for 5 bulbs of the four o clock plant. Really feel kind of bad seeing all my local nurseries are selling the seeds for under $2.
