I have this labeled Virginia Bauer, I can't find a picture though to compare. You know me & the garden gremlins. It is actually more purple than the blue here

Full Tide, looks a lot like Victoria Falls, I had to put the flowers side by side to tell the difference.

I "think" this is Witches Sabbath. No tag. I have several black iris, but this is rufflier than others. First time it has bloomed. I also have Hello Darkness I got about the same time, but I think it is in a different part of the garden.

There's a great way to tell if 2 look-alike iris are the same. Compare the stalks - they will have the identical branching if they are the same.

Oops. Bubbling Over is something else. Witches Sabbath has a mustard beard. Sorry.

I buy lots of my own root roses as bands (small roses) from Heirloom roses mail order. They are TINY when you get them but for me they grow quickly. I just plant them in place and they grow into lovely rose shrubs in no time. I just looked and I don't see COUNTRY LIFE listed on their website this year. The yellow in that picture is WELL BEING. The pink, STAR OF THE NILE. I got them both from Heirloom. As far as heights, I don't buy anything that list over 6 feet and rarely that tall. But its easy to keep them shorter, just prune heavily in the spring (which I do) and then again after the first flush. Here is a link that might be useful: Heirloom roses

I've been eying those salmon poppies in others' gardens around here, and so I am not surprised to see them looking so good with iris in your garden. Lenora Pearl is looking very nice. I find that my iris are more vibrant in the years that it doesn't get above 80 F until July 4. (My iris is getting done with blooming about then, June is pretty much iris time here.) In the hot dry years the blooms don't last long, and they aren't as bright.

That is indeed strange that another person found a way to post as you!!! Red Leonardo sent me scurrying to HMF. How big does it get for you in VA? I've been searching for a heart-be-still red, other than my lovely Mr. Lincoln, and this may be it. Francois Rabelais showed up as bright orange-red in our nursery! Phooey. L D Braithwaite, Red Eden, Rouge Royal, The Squire and William Shakespeare 2000 are ones I haven't seen in person and would like to. Comments from all are welcome - true color, growth size or disease problems.

Hi Deb, I'm glad to hear that your knee is better, and that you can get around easier again. I've got some small daffodil bulbs to plant, too (from a friend dividing bulbs late in the year). And, a couple brave pansies are blooming. I'm going to try winter sowing some antique form/color pansies this year - I love the patterned ones with their whiskery little faces. I've got a few small things to catch up on, too, while the weather holds. I'm making a new raised bed in the front yard (by the driveway turnaround), for daylily seedlings, and I've got some rocks to edge it with. They're in a pile in the front yard; they need to get to their permanent home before they freeze to the ground. So, that's this morning's project. I also need to mulch my roses. I can't believe it's still this warm right before the New Year. Happy New Year, and great gardening to you! Want to have a Southern Tier plant swap again this year? ;-) Laurel

I love those clump shots.

Classic Look is just a wonderfully crisp purple plicata. I thought I had reintroduced it, but it turns out I got World Premier back. I'll try again next year, because I just love it in the garden.

I also love the yellows- Goodnight Moon and Bengal Tiger are so cheerful and fun to look at.

Thanks for the heads up on those iris gal, that is the great thing about being able to post pictures. I like to "know" my iris.I remember now wondering about Bubbling over last year, I was definitely expecting some "bubbling" going on that isn't here. It isn't somewhere else in the yard. Oh well. I just looked it up & it definitely isn't right, is it?
I have several black ones, at least this one is ruffled so shouldn't be hard to ID. I should have looked this one up, I feel like Witches Sabbath should be in this bed. I'll go through my list & see if any match. I'm anxious for WS to bloom now, I looked it up & I love that gold beard on a black flower. I hope it is as black as this one, one site it looks just purple. Thanks for the hint about branching! That is a good one.
Classic Look is a rather special plicata, just extra crisp.
