Another "hostas and friends" post

Spent a full day in the garden (heaven!) planting, weeding, and moving things around. Took some pics of what was making me happy today.

Sagae and fern:

Fried Green Tomatoes lives in front of Sagae (and beside Grand Tiara) surrounded by fern:

I planted two astilbe between my Northern Exposure and Striptease to fill the gap while waiting for them to grow. All three of them got much bigger this year than anticipated!

Stained Glass lives between Grand Tiara and American Halo:

Maui Buttercups suffered some spring burn, but he always makes me smile. He lives by a rhodie and Pineapple Punch:

Rainforest Sunrise lives in front of Sum of All and an azalea:

It was my pleasure to get to enjoy your photos---great looking plants!

I know what you mean about having a full day of gardening and feeling like you are in heaven. Unfortunately for me, this is the second year in a row that my garden is "under construction" at peak planting time and I am soooo frustrated! But I am glad that you had a great day.

I think gardening is the only hard, physical house work I truly love. I'm sorry to hear you can't enjoy your garden right now, but hopefully all the construction will pay off. I'd be lurking on here as well, if I couldn't get my hands into my garden!

Ohhhh, you did good!! The purple leaves of heuchera are a refreshing break from greenness. I think the garden just hums with joy after a good cleansing rain. Perfect time to get out with your camera. Thanks for the eye candy.

Another August, another 'I hate everything' post

I know next year I'm not going to plant impatients in full sun, be it the north side of a round bed, in a year with no rain. I'm still askeared of very wide beds. About 2 weeks ago I visited Spring Ledge Gardens in New London NH. It's really a small nursery, farmstand but they have an absolutely impressive wide bed with some very tall plants that screen the nursery from the street. I walked on both sides just to see everything and ponder how they did it. In some places they do have some low things. I don't get there very often, maybe this was my only visit this year but I thought it looked darn good for mid-August. BTW I thought my shady garden looked better last year. The little things I planted are bigger but I didn't start the climbing nasturtiums indoors so they aren't climing up the old ladder against the side of the barn like they did last year. I think you should get rid of the milkweed. OTH my former holding bed that is now a mess of weeds like goldenrod and brown eyed susans is a delight for goldfinches. I kind of hate to cut it back because I can see them from where I sit at the computer.

It looks like something has decided your tree is a tasty snack. I don't have experience with this type of damage or pest but something I use when I treat with Neem/HO or occasionally when I folier feed my trees is Dyna-Gro's Pro-teKt, It says that it helps with building stronger cell walls in the plant and helps boost its resistance to pests and fungal infections. I have no idea how well it actually works if at all but I use it as my emulsifier instead of soap with the Neem/HO and my leaves seem like they are doing well enough. I have old pest damage from when the trees were purchased but nothing new since then. someone name a hosta "my friend"

I like all kinds of hosta, green ones, blues ones, streaky ones! They are all pretty to me. Sick ones and thirsty ones make me sad! I was in a funny mood and thought it would be wonderful if a hosta had a name of "My Friend"! I would love to give a friend a hosta with the name "My Friend". I have been growing hosta for over 25 years but I have moved several times and sometimes (often) left hosta who felt to me as "my friends." So there could be a double meaning if there was a hosta named "My Friend. Thanks for your suggestions, I have two "Junes" and a wonderful hosta book (kinda of old now.) I lurked on the Gardenweb. I guess I have to apologize for being a silly and for not proofing before hitting submit. :)

Weekend.. You have some really beautiful plants. Not just the hosta but the fern and the rest in you picture are just so lush. Thanks for posting them

Great-looking Hostas....and the ferns, too! I love big, mature hardy ferns almost as much as Hosta. In my opinion, they're the perfect companion plants, and awesome in their own right. Keep up the great gardening...

Gorgeous! And, you have several hostas that I just planted. Mine are lil' babies, so it was exciting to see what they will look like all grown up.

esther_b, My garden is actually quite new. Most of those plants are only starting their second growing season in my garden. It really surprised me how big some of them got this spring, since my soil is quite clayey.
