Planting oakleaf hydrangea - a few questions

I would like to plant an oakleaf hydrangea ("Snow Queen") in a perennial bed that gets full afternoon sun (no morning sun). On their website, the Georgia Native Plant Society writes that the oakleaf hydranges "appreciates protection from the hot afternoon sun". Does that mean that it will be tough to keep it alive in my bed?

Although the blooms are lovely, it doesn't bother me if the flowers don't last terribly long, as I want it also for the foliage and the shape the shrub will take after a few years. That being said, how long might the blooms last if the plant is grown in hot afternoon sun in my zone? (I live about an hour east of Atlanta.)

My last question - I am new to gardening - do you have any tips for how to provide good soil drainage for an oakleaf that will eventually grow to 8 feet tall and wide? How deep should I dig in the soil? Should I just mix the soil with a couple inches of compost? My site is level and looks to be all clay.

Thanks so much for any advice!
