Rooting pubicalyx is the same as rooting most hoyas (I root ALL my hoyas using the same method). I find pubicalyx to be very similar to carnosa, so if you successfully rooted carnosa, then do the same. In terms of propagation methods, have you read the techniques listed in the latest Stemma issue? You'll find a ton of different techniques there, and there are many different ways to root hoyas. Let me know if you need a copy.

Stick the cuttings in some good dirt! This one is pretty easy to root, even when the cuttings are less than ideal.

But if rooting at this time of year, some bottom heat and humidity would help a lot.

No I didn't read the latest Stemma issue. I know you did send me a couple of issues to my yahoo account but I haven't read them all and haven't signed up to receive it. I have rooted carnosa before (in water)and it seemed to do fine when converting from water to soil.

There are many great techniques in the latest Stemma issue. My technique (which is thoroughly explained in that issue) is basically using your regular fast draining soil mix and then putting the pot inside a ziplock bag with holes poked in it for aeration. I use bottom heat (i.e., heating pad) in the colder months. I use moist soil and then mist the inside of the bag every couple of days.

It's impossible to say that one technique is the best. They are all good and it depends on what works for YOU. However, I don't really like water rooting (just my opinion). I think that the transition from water to soil can be difficult (water roots develop when rooted in water, and then they have to change to soil roots once you pot it up). There are certain hoyas that I have successfully rooted in water (like multiflora and bella), but for the most part I have not had much success with that method. But if you feel comfortable using that technique, I can see why you'd want to do it that way.

Gabi, I actually was wondering about multiflora rooting. Does the plant just continue to grow upwards? or does it eventually branch some? If it just grows upwards, you just take a little off the top and root that, right?? or wrong? :) Thanx

It does continue to grow upwards unless you cut it. Of course, the longer the branch grows, it will need support to stay upright. If you want it to branch, just cut the stem and it will branch out into 2 stems at the point where you cut it.

Ok, I found some pics to illustrate what I was saying in the above post. This pic is of my multiflora when I first got it. If you look at the stem growing out of the center of the pot, you can see that it splits into 2 branches - that's because it had been cut at that lower point in the stem, and then branched out from there:

And here's a pic of the same multiflora, but I allowed it to continue to grow upright without cutting it (I use green bamboo stakes as support).

Here's a pic that was taken a few months ago (my most recent pic), and you can see that the stem on the right just grows and grows and grows! I should probably cut it soon.

Your multiflora is very pretty. I just purchased one and very anxious to get it. So when you talk about cutting your multiflora you would just take say 5 or 6 inches off the top and cut it just between the leaf segments??.. Then at that point it would grow into two branches? I am always afraid to cut anything off my plants.

Yes, cut it between the leaf segments. There's no rule as to how many inches need to be cut (but you need at least a 2 node cutting if you want to root it). Just remember that wherever you cut it, it will branch at that point.
I don't mind cutting my hoyas if i have enough to cut, but I'm hesitant to cut that long branch of my multiflora because I think it will look weird if it branches out so high up the branch!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD YOUR MULTIFLORA? WHAT WINDOW DO YOU HAVE IT IN? I AM VERY EXCITED TO GET MINE.

I got my multiflora in March of this year (the first pic above was taken when I got it). I believe it was 17" tall in March (and able to fit on the plant stand that you see in the first pic - now it's on the floor next to that same stand, as you can see!). Now it is 3.5 or 4 feet tall.

I keep it very close to my east facing balcony window (as you can see in the second pic), and I keep it constantly moist - more moist than any hoya I have.
