Hoya Polyneura Peduncles Not Blooming
Comments (2)Klnco4, That's typical of polyneura. Mine had dormant peduncles for a good year and a half before it finally bloomed. Then it only got 3 blooms despite having itty-bitty peduncles at almost every node. Last summer, I chopped up my big plant and made 5-4" pots full, plus a 5" hanging potfull to keep, and none of them have bloomed yet. But once you see those little peduncles form, it's just a matter of time before they bloom. Denise in Omaha...See MoreHoya polyneura blooms and bud updates
Comments (16)Absolutely STUNNING pix!!!! Kelly, I've not gotten this one to bloom yet. Way To Go! Love your grow area, the lights (and your nice tidy house!). Denise, now I'm doublely intimidated... you have a beautiful home and such wonderful plants! Your second picture, do you have those Pella blinds that drop between the glass? I see glass, but I see blinds of some type on the other side of the glass... ? And how CLEVER is that, to attach a trellis to the interior window frame!!!!? Denise, your home has architectural detail that I would sell most of my plants for! That door looks like maple, and the woodwork around your spectacular windows is wonderful. Thank You from a fan for Never Painting Them! Both of your homes are wonderful. Your plants make me jealous. I am SO going to bug DH for a hanging set up in my bathroom. Older, California homes with awnings do NOT provide light.... Thank You So Much for posting those snap shots of your lives and homes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...See MoreHoya "Golden Dream"
Comments (14)Hi Justin, It's good to have a rep here from Costa Farms! Can you get some corrections on names made? I understand the marketing concept of giving a plant an interesting name other than the botanical name. I do this myself. Hoya finlaysonii is "fin" to me. Macrophylla is "Big Mac" and macgillivrayii is "MacG". It's easier and I like that they sound like real names since they ARE my buddies! But I digress! An example: first one is Bilobata Wax Plant. Bilobata is an actual species, and not that one. And tsangii is (for some reason) what that one used to be incorrectly labeled. It is actually DS-70. I'd market it as something that plays off the botanical name, like "Darn Sweet Hoya" and then list the DS-70 as the species. The kentiana (if it's the same as the old EA one) is really wayetti. And all the curly leaf species are compacta, not carnosa. Compacta, I'm sure, is a sport of carnosa, and I think at one time it was listed as carnosa compacta, but I haven't seen it written that way for years. So it would be Hoya compacta 'Crispa' (though I'm not sure that's a valid cultivar.) Here is a link to a file I uploaded with a list of cultivars according to Christine Burton. It should be helpful. Comments (5)I have FINALLY gotten this one to cooperate and thrive for me. I grow it in a shadier location outside, but not completely shady. It gets added sun protection from other hoyas surrounding it. I do grow it semi-hydro, but have modified it's waterings like so: *It HATES being over-watered, so I water it only when the stems JUST start to look droppy. The resevoir for semi-hydro can go dry and stay empty, as long as the stems are still thick and perky, and as long as it is not hungry. *It is a hungry hoya. If it starts yellowing, I feed it. Even if it was fed the previous week. Even if it has time released fertilizer. As for other care, this one is a cooler grower and blooms best grown cool. I plan on keeping it outside longer than most of my other hoyas this year, until temps get and stay below 50F for 3 consecutive nights. Only exceptions to this rule will be: *a sudden freeze *snow (Ha!) I also plan to water less frequently in cooler months, to prevent root rot. Wish me luck! And good luck to you, too!...See Morerennfl
