variegated Hoya bella

Hi everyone,

I had a bad experience when ordering some hoyas; I ordered plants, and the vendor substituted cutting without informing me. Unfortunately, I have not had much success with rooting hoyas, and they all died. I had ordered and received the variegated bella, which was my primary reason for placing the order. Had I know that plants were not available, I would not have placed an order.

So, now I am looking for a place to purchase a plant of the variegated bella. I can't get to Logees anytime soon, but will be going to Maine shortly. Are there any places between NJ and Maine that might have it?

Can't answer your question, but please tell us what vendor you got stiffed by so we know who to be VERY clear with... I would certainly at least make an attempt with a complaint. It seems wrong to substitute cuttings for plants. I expect to pay more for a rooted plant than an unrooted cutting, so I would have felt really cheated...

I did feel really cheated, especially since the catalog made no mention of substituting hoya cuttings for plants if plants were not available. I sent the vendor an email when I got the package. The vendor responded 9 DAYS LATER, telling me how to root the cuttings. A little late, don't you think? Also, I had sent an email BEFORE ordering, asking about availability of the plants, but never received a response, so I went ahead and ordered.

I can tell you that this vendor specializes in african violets and gesneriads, and I will not be order from there again. I didn't want to publish the name, I didn't want to malign them on this forum, but I was really disappointed, especially since I was mainly ordering for the variegated bella.

maranta prateada - I had to google it. just gorgeous! is it easy to grow? I think I like marantas...it's an aroid, right? saw tubers. aroids are super showy. I have African mask polly that I adore, but it does not qualify for this thread ... with dormansy and all the mites... I have many fave plants, but they don't grow easy usually. and what grows easy and dependable - still does not grow year round for me (it would if I were to live in florida for example..) with that said, the easiest dependable plants for me in z7b are ficuses of all sorts, sansevieria and 'golden pothos'. oh, and jades. all of them grow slowly and don't grow much in winter. BUT! they are the only plants that survived over the course of 20 years and grew quite BIG. that's smth to think about! what grows fast - needs to be constantly replanted and divided. lots of work! when you are keeping plants for decades, you are really not into monsteras... or scheffleras...unless you have a huge house, that is. I know bedtime is in the apt and so am i.
