Abba Dabba Do and Family - Just planted Atlantis as 1 eye in late summer and came back as 5 eye. Abba Dabba Do I didn't have any creep year either.

Many of these are medium to large but create nice looking clumps fairly fast - Paradigm, August Moon, Abiqua Moonbeam, Undulata Albomarginata, Striptease, Elegans, Earth Angel, Fortunei Aureomarginata and Guacamole.

Krossa Regal - gotta have it for the color

Victory, Satisfaction - mine are both in second year, but I think are fast growers.

Montana Aureomarginata - has not been fast growing for me.

Many of the first post are not fast growing but will eventually make a beautiful display. Certainly Abba Dabba Do would be first on my list of fast growing large hostas. Choo Choo Train, Journey's End grow fast and look great. Guacamole in good sun grows fast. Regal Splendor.

Krossa Regal has been a pretty fast grower for me.
Night Before Christmas has also been a good grower.

Also, look into Titanic and Samauri.

Blue Cadet, though not large or showy is fast and a great filler.
Francee has also been fast for me and so has Pineapple Upsidedown Cake.

Incidentally, I would hardly call Liberty a fast grower.

yeah you guys are right about Liberty/Majesty and montana aureomarginata being on the slow side.

I guess I was sort of hoping to combine a few fast growers with those that fit the 20-foot rule :-)

montana Aureomarginata and Sum and Substance aren't fast growing. They take a while to form large clumps.

I am in the south so things like Red Dragon and Chop Sticks go pretty quick however Wahoo and Swoosh have filled their large pots out to the max this year.
American Master Piece is oh so slow, it was much larger when I bought it long time gone by. I had it in the ground but I had to move, so its been in a pot of mud for a year and a half. I had to move it quickly so it's in a pot of mud. Should I re-pot it, I have in a 15 gallon pot. I almost lost it a year ago because the soil heaved so badly but I caught it and saved the crown from rotting its self out. Yeua that's it thanks, I need potting soil for that American Master piece? It has lots of eyes but they are like so slow to grow. What would plant it in? It does not look happy and its stripes or variegation is weak too. I look at it almost everyday so it's there for me.

If you want "fast growing", you might be better off just buying big clumps to begin with. I can get some really mature hostas(5 gallon buckets) at the local farmers market for about $30. Check one out around you.

Interesting to me to see what others consider fast or slow...Night before Christmas has been slow for me....been in one spot for 4 years and it's not much of a big deal,....
The Liberty I planted from a tissue culture plant in a 2 inch pot 2 years ago has absolutely jumped out of the ground...each plant is 3 huge eyes and 18 inches tall. I planted a one eyed sagae last year....and it looks like "something" this year.
If I were wanting to do fast fill in, showy and reasonably cheap, I would plant August Moon, September sun, Krossa Regal, Antioch and perhaps Sagae.....and another surprise for me is Yellow Splash Rim...planted a small plant last year and it's an impressive clump now....and will get bigger when the weather warms.
Bobbi Sue has been a good grower for me also...
And Wheaton Blue is a well behaved fairly good grower in a plain dark color.

Blue Angel and Gold Regal planted in a fair amount of sun have exploded for me. Make it morning sun so Blue Angel doesn't lose its blue color too quickly.

I have some of those mentioned,and agree with what others have said. One I would recommend is Olive Bailey Langdon. It looks like Frances Williams,but grows waaay faster,and it doesn't burn the margins in sun,or heat. Mine is only 4 years old,and is a giant already! Phil

I think it really depends on the hosta. For instance, I planted an Elegans. The next year, I planted another right next to it. Same light, soil, etc. The second one is twice as big as the first one. I also had a Northern exposure in a spot for years and nothing. Last fall, I dug it up, put it in a pot, and this year it is bigger than ever.

Montana Aureomarginata - I bought two single-eye plants last year and planted them close together for fast gratification. they have now 5 eyes together.
Northern Exposure is large and fast, again I bought 2.

Large and fast growing plants are the Fortunei albomarginata, aureomarginata, etc. they are also dirtcheap.

a few fast growing large one's for me are, Parhelion, Bressingham Blue, Guacamole, Blue Angel and Sagae.
