Hoyas are wonderfully addictive and you should enjoy growing/collecting them. There was an article in the Edmonton Journal last week that was titled.."Careful they are addicting" A story about us growers who always NEED MORE Hoyas. I promptly showed hubby so he could see it is a sickness of sorts!( He already knew I was sick, but...) Last year I had none and now have 9 different species, mostly thanks to Garden Webbers here:-)

I look forward to sharing with you when my babies grow up alittle more!(All but Green carnosa are still too small)

Welcome to the Hoya addicts group.

I totally agree with Diane that growing Hoyas is real fun. I started myself this year. Today I have 19 different species plus couple of cuttings I received lately and still wanting more! LOL

Most of the Hoyas I have are still too small to be cut but send me an email with what you already have and we'll see. I can give you, as well, some good Canadian recommendations but cannot mention the companies' names on the forum.

Do you have Safeway's where you are? Or Superstores/Extra Foods? Recently I've seen Shepardi and Bella (which they managed to kill ) at Safeways and I've seen Krimson queen at superstore. The Safeway plants were Exotic Angles and not marked correctly.... green Carnosa?....which is probably why they killed the Bella but they were there (and hubby wouldn't let me bring them home:-(.)

Gotta catch them when they are fresh in the store but becareful of Mealies as many that I've seen have had them but Hoyas are worth the agrivation to me:-)

I frequently check Safeway, Superstore, and Extra Foods without success. I have also checked Home Depot, and those types of stores as well. Of course the greenhouses were the first place I looked. Shelmerdine's usually has at least one variety in stock - at the moment they have Carnosa... but I have picked up a Nummularoides and Shepardii from there in the past. I will keep everyone posted with the progress of my search.

Thanks to all those who sent my kind emails offering suggestions as to where to locate hoyas. The consensus appears to be that P.L.G. in Saskatchewan and F.E. in Quebec are best bets. I spoke with Tom at P.L.G. and will be passing through next week to take a look at his plants and hopefully hauling home some hoya loot!!

I'll keep in touch and will let you know how my trip went.

Tom you will be very pleased with what PLG carries. His, for the most part, aren't correctly named but he does have a wonderful selection (for Canada;) of healthy hoyas. He is a joy to talk to and supplies very healthy, generous plants.

FE has extremely hard-to-find exotic Hoyas but do your homework before ordering. Some are more suited to the experienced Hoya grower.

PLG? Please tell me more!! PLEEEASE! Where are they? FE?

Hi All,

I just wanted to report back on my hoya hunting experience. I paid a visit to Tom at PLG and took a peek around. I came home with a H. polyneura and a H. serpens. There were so many varieties to choose from but I decided to try to focus on a hoya that originate in a particular region rather than collect them all (at this point). The ones I seek at the moment are those that originate from the Himalayas area.

If you know of anyone in Canada who has H.arnottiana, H.globulosa, H.griffithii, H. linearis, H.parasitica, or H. thomsonii please let me know. :)

Tom there is one person that I can contact for you to see if he has them. He has the largest Hoya collection in Canada, that I'm aware of, and may have some of the ones you are searching for.

I heard from the other fellow and he doesn't have them. His mother has linearis but she lives overseas.

I had ordered several times from Paul Shirley from Canada. The cuttings are always nice, the prices are reasonnable, he ships fast and the shipping charge is the actual amount of postage. One thing though, he accepts a couple of methods of payment, but Paypal is the method with the least charges. Good luck to all you fellow Canadians!

O.K. Attention all Canadian Hoya growers here! I've just gone through the list of people on this post and almost NONE of you have a trade list! How the heck can we trade if no one has a list of what they have or want!

Me? I want it all;-) It's a lot of fun trading... even sacrifice blooms for new plants!! (which could explain why I haven't gotten any blooms?)

OOPS! I just checked my own trade list and there is nothing there!! There used to be?

I'd best go fix this!

I just added my trade lists. Thanks for reminding me to post one! There are no hoyas on it as I only have recently rooted cuttings and they need to grow before being traded.

I too have just recently discovered the joy and beauty of growing hoyas and I am also in the hunt for new and different varieties. But I am the same way, I have not set up a trade list because I am only learning the names and the ones that I do have are small cuttings or plants I have managed to collect locally and are the same common ones that everyone has, the carnosas.

I have seen the reference to Paul Shirleys web site and have checked it out and as soon as I can learn the various types, I will definately be ordering, I am just not sure which ones I would like at this point.

But I am lurking, and reading and gathering more knowledge of this wonderful plant! :)

I just found this site and am extremely excited. I don't have any hoyas to trade but I am just starting to collect them. I am in Edmonton, and I scour all the stores and greenhouses, looking for something new and exciting. I need more sources. I know what PLG is but what is FE?
