Good grief, Bihai! What beautiful specimens! I love the photos. Can't wait til mine look like that. Most are kind of dormant right now. The guy at the nursery, who is an aroid nut, too, suggested that I bring them home and repot them in potting soil, because they were planted in what I believe what topsoil, with burlap around the roots, because they had been kept in a pond over the summer last year. They were removed from the pond for winter care, were very dried out, but the tubers were in good shape. However, when I repotted them, some of the tubers did break off. I just stuck them back in the potting soil. Right now, I have them in my kitchen covered with some plastic to keep the humidity around them up. Except for Mickey Mouse. There were a few leaves on him, so I put him up under the flourescent light. Has a pretty good sized tuber on him. I potted in Schultz potting soil. Very well draining mix. Think that will be okay until time to take them outside? Susan

It could be possible they had a bit of winter-heave as their root masses are so small. Your soil may be that nice loose stuff so heave is almost expected for a plant so small. Some heucheras do that too and I push them back down. I have a habit of planting my very smalls and minis slightly higher, whether in ground or pot. It promotes vigour and there is less chance of crown rot. If they don't look abnormally high you can leave them.They look like they are very happy where they are. However, keep the moss and mulch in far proximity of their little crowns. Mulch for minis should not invade the canopy of the leaves, just mulch the perimeter around them. That is a sweet and pretty bed you've created. I've divided my Blue Mouse Ears and hope to showcase it is some fashion as well this year. :-)

The mouse named ones I have thus far are: Blue Mouse Ears (of course!) Green Mouse Ears Frosted Mouse Ears Holy Mouse Ears Mighty Mouse Cat And Mouse Mouse Tracks Country Mouse (as said, not a BME sport) And coming within the next couple weeks, Royal Mouse Ears. I plan to make a bed of miniature and small hostas sometime in the future, and mix in some miniature perennials and maybe some conifers as well, and maybe a dwarf Japanese maple too. The mice will get grouped together, the others just mixed about in the bed. The spot I have in mind will be between two silver maples, but it will be a raised bed, perhaps two-tiered, with a thick layer of landscape cloth to keep the tree roots from making their way into the bed. This may be next spring's project. The maples have been limbed up, so I'll get plenty of light shade, dappled with sun, so I think everything should be happy. Karen
