Ok, enough lurking :)

LOts of pictures of my garden, and no one to share with!

This year has been fantastic for roses...Beautiful foliage and loads of blooms...

I love singles. This is Darlow's Enigma...When looking at these beautiful white flowers, one should be left with no doubt that strawberries and roses are members of the same family, the Rosaceae...The blooms are so similar

This year, every friend who likes eggplant got a few from me...I had a lot of eggplants - plants I never planted intentionally. I collect gray water in the kitchen and water my roses with it- and every once in a while seeds from washing veggies end up in it. I had about 7-10 plans pop up...The sweet pepper above is also a "volunteer" plant :)

Thanks for posting! Your garden is always amazing! I really enjoy the view of your garden from here in St. Pete! :)

One thing I noticed in your photos is a beautiful Live Oak with lots of Spanish Moss trailing down. To me, that says Florida.

And, as a cat person myself, I always enjoy your kitty pictures too! :)

Yes, I realized those are private gardens. The loveliness makes one want to peek over those walls to see what is beyond. Yours is so lovely. Cool, lush and refreshing. Reminds me so much of my Grannie's gardens back home. I didn't mean to sound cheeky with you about not having posted in WoodyOak's topic. I just hoped you would and was disappointed to see that you hadn't...yet. Thank you for your response to my little cottage garden. Right now it is over 90 degrees out there and cloudy, like it is along our Gulf Coast, so the humidity level is high as well. Sultry, steamy. The weather here is always one kind of extreme or another. Few days that are perfectly lovely and enjoyable. I had to re-learn how to garden when I moved here to Oklahoma. However, I can grow the hot climate plants here that I couldn't back home as long as they are hardy or I keep them in the greenhouse in winter, so it is a trade off for what I can grow here. I like the greens of a garden too. In the spring, there is little to be found in the region that is green after the winter kill back, so the abundance of colorful flowers is so welcome after a cold, dreary winter. When the weather begins to really warm and the greens appear, and I enjoy the coolness in the various hues of green. The colorful flowers are just dotted throughout my gardens and not the dominant features as they were in Spring. We have two kinds of soil here - red clay and reddish sandy loam. The red is caused by the iron in the soil that rusted, basically. It was the Iron Oxide in everything here that gave Oklahoma its name - The Red Earth. Most of our rivers run that same terra cotta color too. Only the little farm creeks out in the countryside run clear, the exception being our white water rivers in the eastern part of the state. They are cold clear water rivers and even have trout. I am very happy to have the sandy loam here on our place, but it dries out too fast in our heat, so it is a constant battle to keep things alive and flourishing. ~Annie

Nice photos John! It sounds like you are happy with All the Rage. I love all the color changes each bloom goes through, and have you noticed how the blooms close up a little in the evening? I agree that not many of the Easy Elegance roses are very interesting but for those looking for something easy care to throw into the perennial bed they are just perfect. Have you looked at Macy's Pride? I really like that one. Very light creamy yellow to near white, sometimes the slightest blushing of pink at the edges and a light fragrance. It's breeding includes Graham Thomas and Carefree Beauty! I've posted a few of my pix on HMF. I'm sure you can't resist a quick peak to see for yourself.... Those lilies are a thing of beauty!

We just moved to Arizona from Washington. I would never have tried to grow tomatoes out doors prior to moving here. I have two Early Girls with flowers and green tomatoes in the ground now, and have been covering them to protect them from the rain. Do I need to be doing this? Also.....same with zuchini. Do I need to continue covering these guys as well? I only cover when it gets below 35 degrees. I have never had a problem with the rain and do not cover them. The humidity in the air keeps the temperature up enough below freezing during this rain right now. So I do not cover my plants. i don't think that it will hurt them if you keep them covered though.

I have three SdlM, and no place to shoehorn in another rose. I've only recently become aware of Tipsy Imperial Concubine as something special, and didn't realize what a beauty it is. If its blooms are larger than SdlM then it must really be something. The good spots in my garden are all taken, as well as some not so good ones, and I had to get rid of Souvenir de St. Anne's to accommodate William R. Smith, although the spot will turn out to be too small in the end. St. Anne's shrivels here with just a little bit of sun, which is a pity. I can't bear to plant any more teas in Tea Rose Row, especially since my last WRS bit the dust there. nippstress, Krista, bpncrow, rosefolly, fduk, thanks so much for your wonderful words. Praise from my fellow rosarians here has real meaning for me. rosefolly, I love taking pictures, and my problem is rather that I tend to focus on the problems in my garden rather than enjoying the beauty that's also there. I'm working on that, though. Melissa, you've found a jewel of a helper and I'm really happy for you. The chances of finding someone like that here are very slim. Truth be told, loner that I am I prefer to have the garden all to myself except of course my DH.

You must be feeling better already! Good for you, gardening is therapeutic, and as you recover you can do a lot of reading, and maybe some tv on gardening programs.

Olya-thanks for sharing! I'm especially interested in the orchids since I'm now getting started with them. I'd like to come visit your garden after the holidays.
OH, I'm now getting some of those lotus seeds going. This isn't really the best time of year but I have a few more seeds if these fail.

Olya, your orchids are incredible and your roses are lovely. I love the singles the best also. I did not know roses and strawberries are in the same family! Learn something new here every time I come.

Your eggplants are such a happy surprise and treat! I love getting surprise vegetables from my homemade compost. I will have to post soon on some of my volunteers. Those eggplants look great.

The waterlily looks great. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I really love mine too. Bruno looks like a sweetheart. Our rescue cat of eight years is king of the household. Great kitty. My daughter and I volunteered at the humane society for some time a number of years ago, and the third time we went we came home with him. I had to really set my foot down from then on. We also have other pets, but he is a love.

Laura, we need to schedule a garden visit..Right now my orchids are all bunched together and the shadehouse covered with plastic...I cant wait to take it off when all the cold nights are over!
Orchids are fun- but never underestimate how much light they can take. The more the better, as long as it does not scorch the leaves...
Which orchids are you growing?

Anna, the water lily is amazing...a very vigorous plant and so beautiful. I cant thank you enough

My Bruno is a sweetheart and my little hero... We found him while trapping cats (for fix and release) He was limping, and the vet said he was in great pain from a shattered bone (old injury, likely got hit by a car) So...we git him fixed and the Humane Society vet, a wonderful doctor, performed amputation. And now he lives with me and my husband, and I will never ever be able to give him up!

Olya, so good to see you back! The Weeping China Doll you gave me is going great! I saw a picture of one trained into a tree and it was beautiful so I am training mine. So far it is only about 2 feet tall but is like a little topiary and is to die for when it blooms!

Keep up your good work with the kitties and sharing your pictures. I have 2 myself, both rescues, but Lord knows there are so many more out there that need our help!

Great pics and I am in eggplant envy - my seedlings never took off once I planted them in the garden and I'm not sure what I did wrong :o( Bruno is so cute. Our 'miracle' pets sure do take hold of our hearts, don't they?

That aster is gorgeous!!! Where would I go about finding one of those? You say they are native and that REALLY makes me want quite a few of them! The roses are amazing also

Bigpaulie - I can dig a few up for you. They only bloom once a year - so the show does not last year round, but rather a month. The plant likes moist soil, and has done best around the pond...But it will also grow where it is watered regularly

If you are ever in USF (Tampa campus) vicinity, I can bring starts for you. Or I can ship them, but it might take a few weeks -month for me to get around to do it.
It is an easy plant...During the rest of year it takes care of itself, but at this time, it is show stopper!

I have a big container sitting in the kitchen sink (I only collect water in the kitchen right now)..whenever I wash/rinse without soap , the water goes straight into the container
Then, I pour it in the 5 gal kitty litter container, and to the garden. I also pour in it leftover tea, coffee, water from boiling beets,potatoes and eggs, etc....
It is amazing how much water is accumulated and saved!
