Silver Threads and Golden Needles

Odd little hosta - opens with lighter center and green margins and thru the summer changes to yellow creamy margins with a green center - then the green center changes to a whitish grey with speckles of green. So is it viridescent (goes green), albescent (goes white), or lutescent (goes gold)? Hostas are such fun!

Myhostas.be lists the history of the plant as 'Cheatin Hearts' begat 'Illicit Affair' which begat 'Stolen Kiss' which begat 'Silver Threads and Golden Needles'. With the way the color disintegrates in the center it could have been called Broken Heart.

This is from August of 2011. The plant was about a year old. It's got a bit of both kinds of leaves on the same plant. This plant like many last fall continued to grow late in the year. We didn't get a frost until November.

I haven't paid much attention to my silver threads and Golden Needles but when I saw this post I went to make a picture of it. Something has happened to mine. The first picture is of the two plants that I bought in 2009. I lost one of those the other is still living and is in the second picture made today. I guess it has reverted to something else?

I hate to say it, but this plant always looks sort of diseased to me. Especially when it's halfway through its color change.

That said, I still think Paul's photos are kind of pretty, insofar as this is a very unique and interesting plant.
