White Sticky stuff on African Violets?
Comments (2)Sounds like you have mealy bugs. If you have a lot, fill the sink with warm dish soap, put a plastic bag over the pot and soil to keep it from falling out, turn the pot upside down and swish only the foliage in the warm soapy water. Any remaining bugs, dip a q-tip in alcohol and dab at the bugs with it. Isolate infected plants from other plants so the bugs don't spread. Comments (11)Yep agree on mealy bugs. Like Denise said apply 70% Rubbing Alcohol to them directly with a cotton swab if the infection is minor (a few single ones here and there) or spray it undiluted with a spray bottle if the infection is medium (try to avoid spraying the soil as much as possible). Heavy infestations may require the use of insecticides. Manually remove the cottony structures as those are nests where the eggs are stored in (varies with mealy species). The eggs are not destroyed by the alcohol so re-inspect and re-apply treatment every 3-4 days. The most common mealy species infecting house plants is the citrus mealy (slightly darker band going lengthwise on its back) and this one also sometimes infects the plant near or below soil level thus inspect your plant at and below soil level for possible infections. If the infection is below soil level then treatment with insecticides is recommended (or be ready to fight them for a long time :) Milan...See MoreWhite, sticky, powdery stuff on succulents. Help!
Comments (4)Might be mealy bugs. look with a magnifying glass. Certainly there are some hard-water deposits on the foliage, but I assume you are not referring to those. Mealies are fairly easy to kill, take a spraybottle, fill with half water, half isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, (vodka works in a pinch but it is more expensive) and spray daily for several days--you have to kill the eggs as well as the adult bugs, and they can re-infest....See MoreHelp ID'ing sticky stuff on floor of screened porch
Comments (3)It sounds like pine pitch except that you say 'no odor'. Until you mentioned the table (slats or not), I had assumed it was the ceiling boards dripping. Now I wonder if it is something oozing out of this floor rug?...See Morekaty122
