I understand how you feel about being away from your favorite plants. I undergo that every week since I'm actually living in TWO PLACES: one week here and one week there. That has me constantly worry about my plants! Maybe I should move all my plants to one place instead.

Gee, you were just a hop, skip & jump from me down in Beatrice! Many, many years ago, I had a good friend who lived there who's last name was Decker. Any chance your hubby might know someone from her family?? I've wished I could track her down so many times over the years... It's amazing to me what a small world it is!

I've never been much of a traveler myself, but my plants give me another excuse not to do so too much. My brother lives in Indianapolis (about 600 mi. from here) and I just have to visit him every few years (fortunately, he comes back here at least once or twice a year...) I always try to schedule my visits during early, early spring when it's not too hot, but not cold enough that if the electricity goes out, I have to worry. But I still fret a bit...

I've been home for a few days now and brought all of my plants back into the house. I am SO relieved that they survived ( with the exception of my beautiful Bella)but I can't complain.
Xuan, move your plants to one house, so your not stressing all the time...these hoyas are our children, we must have them near us at all times LOL
Pug, Have a great time with your sister DH will take good care of your girls. They will be just fine, I was gone for two weeks and my hoyas survived my absence LOL..

Denise, I have the 08 Beatrice phone book and I looked up Decker, there are 5 Deckers listed. Do you remember your friends parents names? Or her first name? I know how you feel, I just hooked up with my best friend from grammer school in Chicago on this trip. We lost track of each other for 30 years !!!!
By the way, now that I am back home I need a hew hoya any suggestions???????

We also just got back from vacation, we visited Mass. New Hampshire and Maine and even though I did worry a bit about my plants they did just fine.
Hoya's are sturdy plants and I've found that over attention will harm them much sooner than lack of it.

So go on your vacations and injoy them and try and not worry about your plants to much, they will most likely be just fine.

KS-Girl, that's true if you're growing them in the house where the temp is pretty moderate. But out in my GH, it gets very warm - we've had 85 degree days the last couple of weeks and many of mine can't go more than a few days w/o being watered. That's why I try to plan any away time to be either very short, or in the cold or cool months. I visited my brother a couple of years ago for a week in April. The temps were pretty cool, but it was sunny the whole time I was gone. I came home to some very dry plants because it got quite warm in the GH during the day in spite of the cool temps.

Alba, my friend's name is Shirley, but you know most of us gals end up changing our names at some point. I can't remember her parents' names, but I'll have to see if my mom knew them and remembers. It's a lot harder to track down old girl friends than old guy friends!

I know you're going to worry about your girls no matter what, (I did.)I was so glad to be back home so I could bring all of my plants back inside (the house gets very warm when it's closed up) so I had to put up a canopy in the back yard, and put the plants under it on tables. My house looked so empty without my plants!!!
I was at Target this afternoon( I just needed to buy a different hoya) and of course I went into the garden section and found one I didn't have, EA, hoya carnosa compacta. It's really nice. What does a Variegated Macrophylla look like and where did you get it? And NO, I don't have one..

Congrats on your Carnosa Compacta, I don't have one of those, that's the one that looks like a rope, right? I live in a fairly small town, no Target :o(

Very cute plant. I really like the leaves. I ordered a Kerri Sweetheart hoya from Gardinos, and when I thought she was dying I emailed them and they "called" me! I was so surprised. They were very helpful and gave me some tips on how to care for my new Kerri hoya. And Yes, the hoya carnosa compacta is the one that looks like a rope. She is really pretty and soft. I thought the leaves were going to be thick but they're not. It was a hit and miss at Target, some times they have really unusual plants and some times not. I guess I walked into Target on the right day and I had money in my purse...LOL But, I really like your macrophylla....mmmm looks like my next hoya. Is she easy to care for?

I've only had her for 10 days, LOL...but some of the members here have said they grow pretty well, like it kept on the dry side and I've read on Asiatica website that they can get red leaves when given some direct sun. Right now its pretty hot here in FL, so I am slowly giving it an hour or two of morning sun. Other than that, I don't know anything else... I'll keep you posted on how it does for me... Gabi and Jan I know have a beautiful one...
